Brand new Summit & Cruise quits

So - 10 days ago I went to a dealer 300 miles from home to buy a 2015 Summit Hemi - they had the color combo I wanted.

On the way home I kicked in the adaptive cruise control which I also had on my 2011 Overland. I was maybe 50 miles into my 300 mile trip and the cruise just cancelled itself. When I tried to reset it - it comes up with a message that says Cruise/FCW unavailable Service Required".

So it isn't that the FCW doesn't work - the cruise itself doesn't even work. The only way I can get it to work - is to stop and turn the engine off and then I can reset it and it will work for awhile before it once again cancels itself.

I called the "salesmen" (yeah I know) and he thought maybe the "initial factory settings needed to be looked at?

I have not had a chance to bring it into my local dealer to see what they can find. But what do you guys think? This is pretty intermittent and they are not going to be able to duplicate it by driving it down the road for 5 miles. I am also thinking that there is probably no Codes that will be associated with this failure?

Anyone had this happen?

Re: Brand new Summit & Cruise quits

This has been a problem with some of the 2014's as well. I recently took a 6000 mile trip and it seemed that this happened about every 250 miles. The good news is that it reset itself after a couple of minutes and then would be good for another couple of hundred miles. Acting almost like something is overheating.

I had this once or twice. Now it works fine. Workaround is exactly as you described it.

Re: Brand new Summit & Cruise quits

I've had this happen a couple times. The first time was on a long summer highway trip not long after we got the 2014, I watched a LARGE bug on the highway fly into the sensor and as soon as it hit the ACC cancelled and displayed the warning you referenced in the EVIC.

Cleaning the bug off the sensor at a gas station remedied it, but normal cruise control was still functional until I was able to stop.

The second time there was no apparent cause like you said, eventually it just started working again. Normal CC worked fine though.

When you say that normal CC isn't working, just making sure you know there are two buttons. You have to deactivate the ACC and activate the normal CC. Symbol that comes up on the EVIC is different too.

Re: Brand new Summit & Cruise quits

In my 2012 I can turn the FCW off and just use normal cruise control. It's a setting in the center screen and I think the car has to be in park. I would think it would be an option in a 2015 also.

You don't even have to do that on the WK2.5, you have separate buttons for ACC and CC.

Re: Brand new Summit & Cruise quits

I have a question about cruise control. I have A 2014 JGC Summit and used cruise for the first time. As I was going down the highway at 55 mph, the speed limit went up to 60 mph so I pressed and held the res plus button and it accelerated and kept going. I panicked and canceled the cruise. So I thought I would set it again and this time do the res minus button, so I held it in and it was coming to a sudden stop it felt like. I watched my video on the jeep and it stated if I want to decrease or increase by 1mph to push it once, but I want to increase more than 1 mph so that is why I held it down. Am I doing something wrong? New to jeep and I do not know how cruise works on Chrysler vehicles.

The system is electronic, but the response is noted through the mechanics of the engine and drivetrain. When you push the button, there is a bit (not much, but a bit) of a delay before the speed increases. When you push and hold the button, it just keeps increasing. If the speed limit has increased by 5 mph, just push the button five times and let the system adjust itself. Otherwise, the drivetrain is trying to catch up to the ever increasing limit detected by the electronics caused by the continuously pushed button.

Thumbs up Re: Brand new Summit & Cruise quits

Yes, I think I figured out my cruise. I Took it out on the highway and set the cruise for 55 miles an hour and then I push the set plus button and at the bottom right where the cruise control symbol shows the speed and increased by 5 miles so I let up and it went to that speed. I held it a little bit longer and it went up 10 miles an hour and It went up as well (speed). Holding it down without letting up will make it jumped up like 30 miles an hour for example. Did the same thing with the speed minus button and it went down 5 miles an hour and so on. Thanks for your help. I just hope now on a long trip my cruise won't play out like the others on this post. I am glad we have the site for questions and help.

It's not that hard once you get used to it. Just don't spend so much time watching the cruise speed indicator that you forget about the road ahead.

Re: Brand new Summit & Cruise quits

My cruise has always worked very well once set, the biggest issue I've seen is with RESUME which often has overshoots that approach 5 mph. mentioned to dealer once when in for service but no change. Usually I just accellerate to the speed I want and hit SET.

Biggest annoynce is need to turn cruise on everytime the engne starts and the button is a on/off toggle.

Every other car (including a '07 Mopar) I have you just press SET and never need to bother with an ON/OFF. Annoyance but not debilitating.

I had to turn it on every time with my Tahoe.
