Broken driveshaft!??!!

ok.. im at my wits end... I brought this POS Jeep in because it needed a new PCM, they replace it... and the check engine light comes on.. needs a new PCM!?? then it says it need a new fuel sender!???? So they put one in and ofr some reason went to change the fuel pump and BLAM!! the driveshaft breaks!??

Are you kidding! I am so done with this piece of JUNK and will never EVER get a jeep again. I am going on a 700 mile drive in a few weeks and I have ZERO confidence of making it. Worst vehicle I have even owned.

rant over. calling Chrysler

I feel your pain. Even if my all issues get resolved on my brand new Jeep, I'll never come back to Mopar ever. It's been a nightmare of a process since even before I signed the paperwork. I wish I waited a few more weeks before completing the satisfaction survey. Bummer.

Document all of your issues and contact a lemon law attorney if you feel your car qualifies as a lemon. If enough of these are bought back by Jeep, they just might start putting these cars through a better QA process. Maybe..

Not saying it's always the case but bad dealers with shit techs are also a huge issue, and this goes for any brand. The fuel tank is in the middle of the truck and I'm sure they had to or should have removed the driveshaft to do the job and most likely damaged it. I would demand they show the part to you and see what is wrong with it

Broken driveshaft!??!!

+1... If it happened after fuel system changes it's almost 100% incorrect reinstallation. Not saying it makes it better but I'd be challenging the dealer in the cause.

Re: Broken driveshaft!??!!

I'm with JoeD. Drive shafts don't just break. There's a reason. I would suspect the quality of the tech that did the previous repair. I would jumping up and down on the managers desk.

Re: Broken driveshaft!??!!

It's a "Jeep thing". I had 0 issues with '09 Hemi Aspen, 0 issues with '12 Ram, and 0 issues with '13 200 (thus far). My Jeep has had issues, and it needs to go back in after the weekend. I haven't had chronic issues, but just enough to be a nuisance, and more than any other ride I've had since '97.

Re: Broken driveshaft!??!!

no.. it didnt break AFTER the installation. It "blew apart" as they took it off. Like something was wrong with it. Ive already got a case going with Chrysler and they will oversee the repair etc...

I havent had any issues with the dealer, i think its the truck.. nothing makes sense on it

CEL comes on when it gets low on gas... it got stuck in first, they change the PCM, the CEL comes on again and says... replace the PCM... this was AFTER the 1st WiTECH (or whatever it is) got no codes?... the 2nd one worked. THEN the jeep throws a code for a bad fuel sender... in replacing that + a fuel pump (not sure why??) they driveshaft "Blew apart" - exact quote - while they were taking it out. << all of this is in the last week whiles its been at the dealer...

Odd thing was about a month ago.. the CEL came on and the tech said it had multiple module communication failures ....What the heck is that?

I know many mechanics.. its not that hard to take a shaft out... and very difficult to break one doing it. Sure joints/bearings etc could break.. but the shaft itself broke. THat to me says it was faulty

the dealer at least has me in a rental... but I Want a new one now. I dont trust it.

So you believe it just blew apart while being taken apart? You had no issues with the driveshaft while driving it?

Re: Broken driveshaft!??!!

zero (that i know of! lol) the only [mechanical] issues I have had were the CEL when low on fuel and crappy shifting (which got fixed in feb when they updated the software, which then went to hell again when it got stuck in first)

Re: Broken driveshaft!??!!

awesome..."if we dont get the driveshaft in on Friday, it will be here and put in on Tuesday."

Not a peep from the dealer today... and not a peep from Chrysler! gotta love paying $ for something I dont even have.

Re: Broken driveshaft!??!!

finally got it back.. 10 days later, 1 PCM, one fuel sender/pump, one transfer to rear axle drive shaft later... and they didnt even bother to wash it. Covered in bird poo and pollen. lovely.

Chrysler said to drive it and call them back friday. So far, it seems 'ok' - accelerates fine, but i still think the shifting is a bit hard compared to many other vehicles. Spent the last 2 hours cleaning it inside and out so it felt sorta new again.

Didnt work. Still hate it. 6600 miles and I want out. I dont trust it, it has now been in the shop more time than all previous new cars we have owned... combined!

sigh.

Re: Broken driveshaft!??!!

just another update... I went to the dealer tonight and drove 2 other jeeps (both V6 like mine) one Overland, one limited.... Well I will no longer complain about the shifting in mine. Wow both of them were HORRIBLE! shifted really bad, the overland almost sounded/felt like it slipped between gears. just bad...

BUT the rearview camera on the Overland was smooth as could be! 13.48.3 - mine is jumpy
