Interesting SailorKen. I have seen the same white cloud of smoke 2 or 3 times now but mine seems to occur when I go for a very short drive, let it sit for a while and then start it up again.

Via the dipstick mine does appear to be using some oil, but not a lot. I did top it off with an extra half a quart on the first oil change in order to get to the top mark on the dipstick. Almost time for my second oil change and think I will stick with 7 quarts this time and see what happens.

Re: Burning oil

This is an old thread from 2010, but yes, the Hemi does use some oil between changes...nature of the engine. Over 42K miles, I've found a need to add a quart about half-way through my MY12's 8000 mile change interval.

Re: Burning oil

I'm at 16,000 miles. I'm burning a quart every 4,000 miles. I do a lot of short trips where my engine doesn't reach it's proper operating temperature so I figure this is normal. When I asked the dealership, they confirmed that my oil consumption is normal.
