Burning smell after using snow mode

Since we got hit with a bit of snow I was excited to use the snow mode for the first time. Once we got home we noticed a slight burning smell coming from the rear tire/axle area. I never got above 60kms which I thought was reasonable. Has anyone experienced this?

maybe brakes got hot trying to keep the rear wheels from spinning?
