Unhappy Burning Smell when heater is on

Ok, so I searched as best as I could, but I could not find a post specific to my issue. I'm getting an intermittent burning smell from my heater that will last anywhere from 15 min to 30 min. I can get it to go away if I turn on recirculate. I checked the engine bay and exhaust as best I could and did not find any evidence of burning on the manifold. I'm not really sure where this is coming from, but extended breathing of it (when the recirc goes off) will leave me with a soar throat. I've got 9k on the rig, so I've ruled out that "new burning" smell. I've checked the power steering fluid (which is low) but the fluid smell is nothing like I'm smelling in the cabin. I've also ruled out the melted carpet issue that some people have found as the recirc gets rid of the smell. The smell resembles burnt electronics. I hate to take it to a dealer and waste their time with a phantom smell. Any ideas?

Re: Burning Smell when heater is on

I had the same issue at about the same mileage..I did POST about it. It seems to have disappeared although I never did confirm the issue. It was thought to have a a sticker on the exhaust or manifold. The garage cleaned it off and that seems to have solved the issue. It was a a bit of an issue as it did smell like electrical burning.

Re: Burning Smell when heater is on

I crawled under again today and did not see any labels (or their crispy remains) on the exhaust. I hope it goes away soon. I find myself inventing reasons just to take it for a drive. :-)
