Can someone check the gear shifter for me?

Put it in drive, now try to move it towards N and back to D without engaging N. Do you have play or is it stationary in D and there is no play thus it doesn't move else you move it to N? Trying to see why sometimes I have to move it past R to get it into R from D, I think I have too much play where it probably should have zero. I was going to go test a new vehicle on the lot if necessary.

Re: Can someone check the gear shifter for me?

There is a little play forward when in D before you feel it shift to N, but mine shifts from D through N to R with no problems.

Mine has some play in it. Not enough to make it not go into the gear but it does move around a little bit.

Re: Can someone check the gear shifter for me?

I questioned that on two test drives, and exists currently in my new JGC. All three JGC's I drove had it. No play in R & N. But in D, I can almost move it 3/4" of inch without engaging N. Its annoying to me because I think its a fit/finish issue.

Re: Can someone check the gear shifter for me?

Since they all do it, I consider it to be more of a design flaw than a fit & finish issue.

Re: Can someone check the gear shifter for me?

I don't consider mine to have any play. When it's in D, it's there solidly, as though a spring were holding it in the rearmost position. I have to push on it to move it forward.

Re: Can someone check the gear shifter for me?

Yes, mine doesn't move when it's in D unless I push on it also, but you have to move it about an inch, or even a little more, before it starts to feel like it's starting to shift to N. When you move it from N to R, or from R to N, it feels like there's literally no movement before you begin to feel it shift.
