I dont know if the Alpine system you are speaking of is the same one thats in my 2012 Overland, but it sounds very impressive! This is coming from someone who is into quality audio including home theater systems and has had MANY vehicles with all sorts of different upgraded audio systems (GM's with Bose, Acura's with ELS, Lexus with Nakamichi, and now my new Overland). I would say without a doubt my new Overland has a superior sound system compared to the others. The only one that it comes close to it would be the newer ELS systems in the Acura's which is incredibly good as well. I have also had aftermarket systems when I was younger and was a car audio installer in my younger days as well. So like I said, not sure if your Laredo has the same system thats in the Overland's, but its is a very good system. I have had the volume to max (38) using a good quality MP3. There was no distortion whatsoever and the highs were still crystal clear, and the sub was putting out a surprising huge amount of base. All three mirrors were shaking, and my vision was even distorted slightly during the deeper base lol. What else could you ask for in an OEM system without having to hack the shit out of your interior with aftermarket crap everywhere?

need to run a Jl Audio Cleansweep or a Audio Control LC6i in between the Alpine amp and new amp. And if your going to do that, why not do the speakers too to take full advantage of the new amp

It is a good system, just could be beyter for a 40k vehicle. The bass is terrible, and the highs can get drowney at times.

Wellp I dont know what else to say. In my vehicle the bass hits surprisingsly hard and the highs are crystal clear with no distortion at any volume level. You sure you have the high end audio system as it looks like you might have a Laredo unless you just painted some of the chrome parts. Unless your listening to bad quality MP3's which does make a world of a difference BTW. When someone says the bass is "terrible" when just yesterday I had my mirrors shaking and my vision distorted from all the bass just makes me wonder what type of cars you have owned. What did they come stock with 2 twelves or something? ;-)

Re: Can we get better Sound Quality by removing this piece?

Some here want to blow houses off foundations and set off car alarms as they pass by. The OEM premium sound system's base won't do that. The STR8 systems seems to be better.

Personally I'd like just a little more base thump at low volume, but there is no easy sub channel adjustment. Otherwise the premium system is a good system IMHO.

no. I have an.Altitude.Theycame with the 9 speaker Alpine. I am an audiophile at heart. And the setup that is going in will improve the system. im,not saying the system is terrible, im saying I expected more out of it The bass does hit, but disappears at the really low end Mod.bass is great, but low.base leaves something to be desired.

you can add a line output conveter with new sub and amp for cheap and get the low.bass that this system lacks.

Re: Can we get better Sound Quality by removing this piece?

Haven't read all the posts but I'm fairly certain it's been debunked. I doubt you'll hear an audible benefit by removing the cloth. You'd be better off upgrading your speakers.

The system in my JGC is fine. Put the money into a home stereo system where the sound isn't absorbed into the seats the rugs the headliner before it reaches your audiotory nerve in your ears.

Re: Can we get better Sound Quality by removing this piece?

So far I think the easiest, most frugal, and quickest way is to add aftermarket speakers. Something along the quality of the Infintys wakes up the system for not to much added expense.
