Can't control HVAC - Looking for part number for HVAC Circuit Control Board

Last week, my '14 Grand Cherokee started defaulting the temp to 75 and defrost, blowing at level 5 at all times, leaving me unable to control the HVAC in any way. The only thing I can do, from the UConnect screen is turn the unit off. All of the knobs and buttons beneath the screen are "dark" and do not respond to touch whatsoever.

I took it to the dealership and was encouraged to pay them $115 to do 18 software updates, in hopes that would fix the problem. It did not. Why I'm having to pay for software updates for their faulty software is another issue altogether. I digress...early in the week, I was told that I needed a $275 part that would fix the problem. It took three days to arrive and today I'm being told that part is not correct and that what I actually need is a $775 part. Between the updates, parts and labor, this fix is costing right at $1,000. I'm 2,100 miles out of warranty. This part is coming from Detroit, so I'll have to wait another 3-5 days for it to arrive. They're referring to it as the entire control board beneath the screen. That is all one part, according to them, and includes the knobs and circuity needed to fix my problem.

Can anyone provide me a part number for this repair part they are referencing? I'd like to price the repair with some other shops in town. The whole thing from paying for updates to "wrong part now you need this more expensive part" is feeling fishy to me. If anyone has experience with this same issue, I'd love to know what your experience was too. Thanks to all!

Yes, I got it on March 17, 2013 and have 38,109 on it today. I love the vehicle, but things like this are disappointing.

Re: Can't control HVAC - Looking for part number for HVAC Circuit Control Board

Is 36,000 miles for warranty coverage normal in the US?

In Aus the Jeep warranty is 100,000km = 62,000 miles, and that is considered normal to low.
Although that also covers the power train where you get another 2 years and 40,000 miles on us.

There could be an argument that this should be covered under warranty as it is not a distance related item but more time based. Not sure how you would go on that though.

I would have thought that software updates would be covered regardless of the age of vehicle, just as long as your VIN brings them up as required, the dealer should get their labor rebate.

certainly this is of no help but damn dude if you knew you were going to rack up the miles like that why didnt you get extended warranty, any chance you could add it now?

Re: Can't control HVAC - Looking for part number for HVAC Circuit Control Board

It may have made sense to buy the warranty, but in this case, it seems like a problem I would have had regardless of miles. The dealership has offered to allow me to take the $950 total repair fee and apply that to a MaxCare lifetime warranty. Total cost of the warranty is $3,580 and each event would carry a $100 deductible. I'd need another $2,500 worth of repairs to break even.

It may be the greatest offer ever, but I'm one who believes the dealership wouldn't be making me such a "great" offer, unless they stood a pretty decent chance of beating me out of some money on the deal. I'm just not a big extended warranty believer. I tend to fall in the crowd that says "as soon as you buy it, you won't need it, but if you don't buy it, the car will take every dime you have."

Re: Can't control HVAC - Looking for part number for HVAC Circuit Control Board

And an update...

My Jeep got 18 updates this week, as it awaited the arrival of the part that didn't work. Because the correct part wont be in until Wednesday or Thursday of next week, i opted to pick the car up last night. After the updates, I can now completely control the HVAC from the UConnect screen, where this did nothing for me before. The knobs beneath the screen are still worthless, but I've got cool air!!!

Re: Can't control HVAC - Looking for part number for HVAC Circuit Control Board

with the amount of electronics and electronic controls integrated into the car, it is an extremely smart decision to have some sort of extended warranty on this vehicle...and any future vehicles. The days of mechanical controls are long gone.
