Capless filler neck "flap"

I was putting gas in and heard an odd click when I put the nozzle in. Now the little flap (the metal outer one) is stuck open... does this matter or should I get them to fix it?

I havent seen any lights on the dash yet (been a few days).. is it just an aesthetic or does it serve a purpose? Maybe to keep dirt out?

ooo.. it probably is... great. Maybe I can free it somehow

Re: Capless filler neck "flap"

well, i went out and messed with it... seems that the spring that pushes the flap closed may be broken. I can use a curved tool and push the tip and it closes, but its not spring loaded.

..... Have I mentioned I hate this truck?

Re: Capless filler neck "flap"

zipped over to the dealer, they ordered a new one. Thankfully, the end of the filler neck comes off (twist to the left to unlock) so it will be a 2 second fix...

And hopefully none of the broken spring is down in the gas tank.

As long as it is a decent sized hunk, I wouldn't expect it to hurt anything.
