Re: Capless fuel tank problem.

Does anyone know what the objective was in going to the capless filler. Is it cost, keeping your hands clean, or what?

I haven't had a problem, but every time I gas up I wonder why.

In the fall I always empty the 5 gallon can of 'lawn mower' gas into the tank, rather than having it sit over the winter. Having to use a funnel seemed silly. Before we had to worry about the ecology, I used to dump it behind my garage to keep the weeds down.

To allow for new threads questioning designs and creating solutions to deal with them.

Maybe it was to increase the sales of butt plugs which are used in the dusty outback - LOL.

Re: Capless fuel tank problem.

I always thought it was because it's harder to lose a capless cap.

I was fine with tethered caps though. Those are almost as hard to lose!

That is the most plausible thing I have ever seen in these forums.

Good question. I suspect either some guvt or a bean counter somewhere.
I used to have to replace the filler cap about every 4-5 years in order to pass the emissions pressure test. Plus I've seen vehicles leave stations with the filler door either open or missing, and the cap dangling from its tether, or every now and then one left on the pump or laying on the ground near the pump.

I have noticed that the folks from up north seem to have more trouble with nozzles?
In multiple x country trips from Colorado west and back, have yet to run into a gas nozzle that doesn't easily slip into the capless... are the Canadian nozzles just a tad larger or something?

Re: Capless fuel tank problem.

I was happy with the two hook holder that was used for maybe 15 years.

Then i get my 13 and all summer i looked at that door for a place too hang my cap! Its a tiny little tab, jeez. then i bump it off the tab and get dreaded slap against the panel anyway.

Re: Capless fuel tank problem.

Does a pre 14 filler neck with cap fit as a replacement for the capless filler?

Re: Capless fuel tank problem.

Dumb and unrelated question to the caplees problems discussed here but I noticed a couple of you say "MY14 GC" or similar in this thread. Is "MY" the model designation code for the 2014 GC or are you just identifying your vehicles as belonging to you? I can't find an up to date list of Jeep designation codes and I can't find it listed on the vehicle.

Re: Capless fuel tank problem.

MY = model year. WK2 = 2011-15 model years.
