Capless fuel tank problem.

I have just returned from a road trip to Atlantic Canada in my 2014 GC. When I stopped to fill up at the pumps yesterday the metal trap door didn't close over the filler tube to the gas tank. I am unable to pull it closed manually with my finger. Obviously I will be taking the vehicle back to the dealer and I hope this small problem can be repaired without replacing a fuel tank.

Has anyone else ever heard of such a problem and if so, was it repaired?

Thanks guys, I tried unscrewing it, but no go. I am going to take it to the dealer and hope that this is covered by warranty. I am a bit worried that they might say the damage is my fault by somehow pushing the pump nozzle in wrong. Oh yea, this happened at a Petro-Canada pump in Woodstock, NB so maybe I can blame it on Atlantic Canada.

Hahahaha, I was staying in Petit-Cap, NB which is close to Moncton. Actually the capless system was causing me problems ever since I picked up the vehicle last month. It was hard to put a gas nozzle in and I had to ram it a few times. Only in NB did it finally jam open. As a final note, I called my service advisor at Orleans Dodge Chrysler Jeep for a repair appointment and he knew exactly what I was talking about when I started to describe the issue making me believe that this is not an isolated occurrence. Tomorrow I will find out how good my warranty is.

I had to replace mine.. it doesnt "unscrew" but it does twist-lock.. grab it and twist to the left (takes a bit the first time you unlock it). Less than a quarter turn and it will then come out..

Super easy, stop in to the dealer, pop it out and show them (there is a part # on it) - have them order it. Then when its in, you can just have them put it in without needing a full appointment (the service writer guy can do it right there!)

takes 2 seconds

Your wrist must be stronger than mine. The vehicle is already in for service so I hope it is out soon. I have put 8000 km on it since delivery on July 3rd so I am having an oil change done at the same time.

Does anyone know what the objective was in going to the capless filler. Is it cost, keeping your hands clean, or what?

I haven't had a problem, but every time I gas up I wonder why.

In the fall I always empty the 5 gallon can of 'lawn mower' gas into the tank, rather than having it sit over the winter. Having to use a funnel seemed silly. Before we had to worry about the ecology, I used to dump it behind my garage to keep the weeds down.

I was happy with the two hook holder that was used for maybe 15 years.

Then i get my 13 and all summer i looked at that door for a place too hang my cap! Its a tiny little tab, jeez. then i bump it off the tab and get dreaded slap against the panel anyway.

Dumb and unrelated question to the caplees problems discussed here but I noticed a couple of you say "MY14 GC" or similar in this thread. Is "MY" the model designation code for the 2014 GC or are you just identifying your vehicles as belonging to you? I can't find an up to date list of Jeep designation codes and I can't find it listed on the vehicle.
