catch can oil color ?

Installed a oil catch can on my 2013 wk2 a couple weekends ago and I just pulled it off to see how much oil it collected and when I got it off the oil that was in it was looked like milk with a hint of chocolate syrup. Should I be concerned ? less than a 1000 miles on the engine.

Check your oil dip stick if its the same you've got a big problem, coolant getting into the oil, most likely a head issue, get it to your dealer ASAP

Re: catch can oil color ?

Mine is normally a bit thicker and has a hue of chocolate in it, but it does not look overly white (the milk reference).

Normal for me to get "latte" in Winter and just oil condensate in Summer.

More short trips = more moisture collected in catch can during cold weather. It mixes with oil vapor condensate to form the milky emulsion.

The good news is that it is not going into your intake manifold and cylinders.

Yeah I do only drive like 3 miles to work each way. So maybe the oil is never getting hot enough to burn all the xtra water and like Walt said at least it not going back into my engine

Re: catch can oil color ?

I have a catch can also, and my oil has been that color plenty of times. What happens is that there is condensation that builds up in the lines due to your engine getting warm and the outside temp being so cold when it mixes with the oil and vibrates around it will turn a nasty looking latte/milkly color. What I did to make sure it was nothing major was pour the oil into a solo cup and let it sit aroung for a day or two. I bet after everything settles the oil with turn back the color it should be.

Hope this helps.

1. Do a search for OIL CATCH CAN on the WK forum. Several threads discuss it.

2. Here's link for the one I (and many other WK 5.7L HEMI owners) have installed: Billet Technology | Modern Mopar Billet Accesories Problem comes from high flow PCV valve on our HEMI's.

3. Great time to install before your intake manifold gets full of crud. Takes 1 hr or less.

4. If you are lucky, jeepgcoman will weigh in and give more info. He convinced me to do it.

5. Just emptied mine this afternoon. About 1/4" of "latte" after 2 weeks.
