There should be some level of expectation for the dealer of your car to tell you the correct maintenance for your jeep and not try to take you. My 85 year old grandmother doesnt study maintenance schedules she expects the dealer to tell her whats right and what she needs, fortunately she has a good dealer. Unfortunately many are rotten and will try to take you when ever they can doesnt make it right just because they can. Another reason why dealers offen have terrible reputation. I know mechanics and dealers dont get anything by me but i dont believe their goal should be to take those that dont. What they did above was just blatant and wrong on a normal use vehicle at 15k.

Definitely. Having knowledge is always going to benefit you when it comes to these types of decisions. Not knowing doesn't mean it's right for someone else to take advantage. Would you expect a doctor to do a hip transplant while you are in for a sprained ankle?

Unfortunatly, in todays world, there are a lot of dishonest people out there. If you don't know about a decision then you should find out from a trusted source, such as a family member or friend that is more up on the needs of a modern car. Then there is always the owners manual. Depending on a dealer or a independent shop to steer you correctly is just asking to be taken advantage of.

Thanks for the feedback. The answer is that I indeed have not paid enough attention when agreeing on the work they said was neccessary. Me being totally pre-occupied with other issues at the time, doesn make it correct, as many said. So far, the dealership is not been cordial enough to call me back. And if they don't, fair enough. I cut my losses and move on. For Arrigo, they already lost my business.

Nevertheless, still very satisfied with my JGC.

Re: Charged for rear differential oil change done @ 16774 Miles

Happened to me once with my previous vehicle. Went in for oil change and made it clear to them to ensure their mechanic doesn't spill oil in my engine cover as last time they left it dirty. Service tech apologized and said hey i can offer you a discount. Of course i was pleased and said sure.

Fast forward to an hr later when getting final invoice i noticed there was no discount and asked the what's up. His stupid response was "We were going to give you the discount but your car ended taking 9qts of oil. We kept pouring and pouring and it didn't fill up until 9qts."

That son of a ***** thought i was born yesterday when clearly the manual says 7 - 7.5qts of oil.

lol - that's pretty good.

I had a Toyota dealer leave the oil cap off and I drove it like that for an hour on the way home. Talk about a mess. I check every time now.

Re: Charged for rear differential oil change done @ 16774 Miles

I just took my JGC in for warranty work and was a bit surprised when the service writer said "Oh you are do for an oil change in your front differential". I said that was surprising, since my JGC only had 18,000 miles. She clearly stated Chrysler had changed the service interval to 15,000 miles. I expressed shock and concern about this unusual development, but she wouldn't budge. So I told her I would change it myself.

Of course I went home and confirmed what others have written here. The earliest service interval is 20k for severe service - but it is only inspect the level...

I plan to discuss this with the service manager before I decide if this is a big deal. Only my second visit to this dealer, but I really like them. Now I have a trust issue. What if my wife had dropped the vehicle off instead of me? Makes me really mad!

Main reason I like to take my cars in for service myself. 2 past experiances with Wifey:

1st took her car in for oil change and she was told that her car required full synthetic when in reality she does not need it on her car nor has it ever had full synthetic. Rip off.

2nd issue:
Took my previous camaro in for oil change but had to leave to work so wife stayed waiting for my car. i had asked for oil change and filter change.

At the time to pay she was informed there is an additional $35 for the filter change. didn't make sense when she called me so i gave them my piece of mind and waived that bogus charge.

Therefore, i take my cars in myself.
