chonore is on a distinguished road
Thumbs down chonore

I purchased a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and found that there is a vibration in the front end at all speeds. I notice it in the steering wheel and in the gas pedal. I can also hear the thumping while driving which gets louder when going faster. I had the tires balanced twice. I think it is probabaly a bad wheel barring or something defective in the front end. I noticed it at 60 miles when driving on the highway.

Re: chonore

i have a similar issue with my '11 overland. tires have been balanced and it's still there and the dealer claims the bearings check out okay. i feel a slight thump, thump, thump, at lower speeds and then a noticeable vibration at speeds 50+mph and really bad at hwy speeds (70+).

What wheel/tire pkg do you have?

I'm also considering picking up a set of 18" brand new Take offs just to see if the ride changes...it may seem crazy, but if purchased right, I could always sell later if i decide to go back to the 20".

Re: chonore

I also have this problem with my 2012 5.7. Both my hand and foot are num after a half hour of driving with this vibration. It seems the vibration in the gas pedal is much more pronounced during acceleration. Had the tires road-force balanced twice yet I still feel a vibration in the steering wheel and gas pedal. But... I'm thinking its going to be hard to convince the dealer there is an issue because I'm running Goodyear Silent Armors and a Volant CAI. Frustrating because I had the same tires and CAI on my 2002 with no vibration issues at all.

Re: chonore

May be a belt problem in one of the tires, they would balance just fine but on the highway would be murder. Size wheels (17/18/20)? What tire?

Have you varied tire pressure, max min and notice any difference? The GY Fortenza is noted for sensitivity to tire pressure.

Have the wheels been checked for run out or dents?

Is it driveline shudder that you are feeling.

Check for debris or gunk stuck to the drive shafts or inside the wheel.

This can be a tuff nut to crack, there are several threads in the archive on this subject.
