Chrome Bar on the Trunk/Hatch of Jeep Bubbles/Blisters

I noticed this the other day on my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

There is no damage or dents around the chrome bar but it appears to have begun to bubble/blister up. I have an appointment with the dealership on Wednesday, its out of warranty so I am wondering if this is part of the corrosion protection.

I scoured the forums here but have not seen any other problems like this. Any suggestions?

Update to the situation. The dealership said nothing more then "this isn't covered under warranty" and "it will cost you $350 to replace"

Not very happy at all as they didn't even try to explain what was wrong or caused it.

definitely unusual for that to happen as mine is still pristine. That sucks that it isn't covered but there are other options. That chrome piece comes off real easily with a little prying and at least one JG member has theirs for sale for $100. I know it's still not free but beats 350 from the stealership

If not covered, maybe a great time to get it color-match painted!

Re: Chrome Bar on the Trunk/Hatch of Jeep Bubbles/Blisters

Why would this not be covered under warranty?

Do we not all have 5 yr/1000,000 rust through warranty?

Re: Chrome Bar on the Trunk/Hatch of Jeep Bubbles/Blisters

Thats a very strange issue and should be covered under the 3yr 36K miles bumper to bumper warantee!

It appears the chrome like coating on that piece of plastic didn't adhere correctly. You don't have to replace the entire assembly though, that chrome rear liftgate brow will pull right off using just your fingers or if it's really stuck a small nylon pry bar leaving the rest of the assembly still bolted to the liftgate.

Here's how you do it;
Rear Brow Removal?

If you need that chrome plastic brow to replace your damaged one PM me. I have one in excellent condition that I replaced w/a painted Altitude version. $80.00 + shipping and its yours.
