Re: Chrysler Extended Warranty Prices

The issue normally stems from the compressor failing. The Jeep shouldn't have that issue based on the sealed system. It doesn't have to keep pumping and drying outside air.

The other main issue are the bags themselves they eventually from so many compressions develop small cracks in the rubber and cause leaks. This will be the achilles heel on the jeep if this happens since it is a closed system. It will not be able to compress outside air to pump the system back up. With other systems the compressor can keep up with small leaks for sometime before the leak gets to large or the compressor overheats.

The other issues with the systems are the electronics and valves.....wheel sensors, height sensors, frozen or sticky valves.

According to this http://www.vehicledynamicsinternatio...p?NewsID=22922 , Continental is producing the jeeps air suspension. It's being assembled in North Carolina. about mid-way down the page.

If it works this is the best link for info yet http://www.conti-online.com/generato...ysteme_en.html

So much for listening to a mechanic at the dealership

I'll bet the Grand has Tokico shocks, and he mistook them for the air springs.

As another data point, I have a 2003 Audi Allroad with the air suspension. We have 80,000 miles and no issues with the air suspension. I also know of someone else with a 2003 Audi Allroad that has over 150,000 miles with no issues. Range Rover and commercial trucks aren't the only vehicles using this technology.

BTW, Audi used an open system.

A) The first year of any brand new model is risky. Lord only knows what will break after 3 years. Look at the number of TSB fixes that came out for the WJ and then the WK. Some of those TSB's were applicable to models that came out 5 years before the TSB. No extended warranty means you have to pay for those repairs. Fixing the blend door problem on the WJ's cost as much as the extended warranty does. Plenty of people are driving WJ's without properly functioning AC/Heat because of this problem.

B) There is a lot of equipment on the WK2. More to break.

C) This is a heavy AND fast vehicle, and the driveline/suspension/brakes are stressed much more than, say, an Accord.

D) I change my own oil, and because of that, I'm under my Jeep a few times a year. I always look for leaking seals, and can almost always find someting (Diff, Axle, Transfer Case, etc). If I had to pay for these repairs myself, I wouldn't do most of them. I'd just keep topping off fluid. The extended warranty gives you the luxury of keeping the Jeep in top notch condition throughout its life. This will extend it's useful life, and improve resale. All the warranties up to 7/100 are transferrable too, which has got to make the Jeep much more attractive to potential buyers.

I'm getting the lifetime warranty. I just wonder what they're going to do when say, a nav unit is no longer available 10 years down the road

Extended warranties probobly aren't nearly as good of a deal for other cars (on my wife's, it would have been a waste), but for the Jeep, it's a good deal.
Really appreciate your "consensus!" I'm still on the fence, mainly because when I purchase insurance, I will buy the "mechanical breakdown" coverage: I purchased lifetime coverage ("lifetime" as long as you pay the premiums) when I bought my 1994 GC new, and just used it last month for a major rear axle repair. Current policies are only good for 7 years, but I figure that might be enough time to ring out the "bugs."

Re: Chrysler Extended Warranty Prices

Is there any other option in Canada other than the dealer quoted warranty? They want an arm and a leg for it. I contacted chryslerwarrantys.com and they said that this was only available in the US.

Re: Chrysler Extended Warranty Prices

I have a couple questions. I am purchasing my jeep via the Navy exchange overseas program.
I got quoted $1570.00 for the "owner's protection 7 year 70,000 mile major component coverage.
And $639.85 for the Ziebart vehicle protection package.

What is the Ziebart vehicle protection package and what does it include?
Thanks, Ron

Re: Chrysler Extended Warranty Prices

It includes the free container of KY Jelly to make the cost seem 'comfortable'. Don't do that! The vehicle has plenty of corrosion protection, and the added stuff requires you to have an inspection each year to keep the warranty in place. Besides, it sprays goo all over the engine compartment, and that is really unsightly!

Does anyone recommend any protection plans for the interior for stains ect?

Re: Chrysler Extended Warranty Prices

What interior are you getting? Neither one is good for stains...they're gonna' happen. Go old school with Fingerhut clear vinyl covers!!!
