Chrysler Recall P36 / NHTSA 14V-391 (Visor Wiring)

I received a recall notice for my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, that supposedly deals with the wiring to the vanity mirrors in the visor. I REALLY don't want the dealership pulling down my headliner, or greasing up the visors with their fingers. I travel in the Jeep ALONE most of the time, as we take family trips in the wife's van. I am not checking myself in my vanity mirror and don't have passengers that do. I replaced the stock bulbs with LED's (which kick butt), so did anyone else get this recall notice?

It says: The problem is... The sun visor vanity lamp wiring on your vehicle may experience a high resistance short after a service repair to the sun visor, headliner, or while gaining access above the headliner. This may result in an inoperative vanity lamp and increase risk of fire.

I never had a visor repair, or removed the headliner...so what would you do?

Are you planning on doing anything about it? Is it that serious?

All advice from fellow Jeep Garage Forum Brethren is appreciated.

HAZE

Re: Chrysler Recall P36 / NHTSA 14V-391 (Visor Wiring)

The recall says "....AFTER a service repair to the sun visor, headliner or while gaining access above the headliner."

I have had none of the occur, so I'm not taking it in. It will be noted in my service log I keep to have it corrected IF service, etc. is necessary.

I feel the same way, I don't want them pulling apart my clean interior and messing it all up. I received the recall in the mail today but I will be ignoring it for now.

Yep got the notice Monday. As it is i'm already going for the black molding/trim between driver side door and passenger door. I'm already planning to be there at least 2 hrs on saturday. Do i really want to wait another three for them to mess with my jeep?

I will be putting it off for as long as possible, also doing my best to avoid it entirely if it won't ding the car repair history.

Re: Chrysler Recall P36 / NHTSA 14V-391 (Visor Wiring)

I signed my work order today indicating that I was refusing this recall. Even my service advisor said it was a horrendous amount of work to perform the repair.

Good to know there is a mechanism to refuse it

Re: Chrysler Recall P36 / NHTSA 14V-391 (Visor Wiring)

Hmmm, between my insurance company and my Max Care service contracts I don't think I will refuse the Recall. If one of them did burn up they would probably shove that refusal in my face and leave me hanging out to dry. I've got buzzard luck so I'm not going to take the chance. I've got two for the brake booster shield and the vanity mirror wiring and I'm waiting to see what they are going to do on the '11 TIPM fuel pump relay thingy. It is getting a might tedious.

Interesting point. If you refuse the recall and your car burns up, who would pay for it?

I'm sure if they trace the burn to the recall YOU would be paying for it. Why would Chrysler pay for it?

Re: Chrysler Recall P36 / NHTSA 14V-391 (Visor Wiring)

To clarify... my signing the work order refusal doesn't mean that I'm refusing to ever have it done, it was a refusal to have it performed at the time I had it in for other service work. The dealer has to cover his butt too. If I decide to do it down the road (which I probably won't) all I have to do is schedule the appointment for it.

Remember... the recall specifically states that it's for vehicles that have had prior headliner work performed, or any other work that would've involved touching the sun visors. Mine hasn't, so I'm not worrying about it or losing any sleep over it.

Anyone who has had issues with pano roof rattles may want to consider having the recall performed as the service department would've been monkeying around with the headliner in the process of locating or fixing the rattle.

Only you can decide if it's in your interest to have it done.
