Re: Class Action Lawsuit?

The fix isn't bells and chimes. It's making it idiot proof by putting it in park in case you don't prior to exiting the vehicle.

tl;dr Any design that doesn't make as many assumptions as possible about human error is bad design.

And it's not correct to say that the electronic shifter is perfect. I've noticed that ~5% of the time that I push the shifter "all the way up" from DRIVE, it doesn't reach the second stage necessary to shift all the way up to PARK (regardless of how hard I push). I have to give it 2 goes to take it up to P in these circumstances.

Couple that with the fact that it isn't painfully obvious what gear you are in after shifting, and that's HORRIBLE design.

Are your eyes closed and do you have a towel thrown over the EVIC?

I'll be fine in my Jeep , but obviously not everyone has been. And I'm not as confident in someone else driving my Jeep unless I tell them with all seriousness to ALWAYS double check the gear, and ALWAYS use the parking brake.

Maybe I'm just paranoid... Or maybe Jeeps are actually rolling around at 3mph killing people because of a design flaw.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit?

Not that I want to get into the middle of this...BUT...

This is the first vehicle that I have had ANY issue with using a shifter properly, with an automatic transmission.

I don't feel comfortable with anyone else driving the Jeep without giving them the warnings to make sure it is in park, watching to make sure it is in the gear they want (drive, reverse).

It is NOT intuitive, and definitely takes some getting used to.

I have had it in neutral when I thought it was in drive, or reverse, as it passed the detent for either...necessitating another shift into the desired gear. It can be frustrating.

I have only owned the Jeep for 3 months, and still working on developing the "knack" of operating it properly 100% of the time, but the fact that you have to develop a "knack" for something at all means it's not intuitive, or doesn't function as expected.

If, at the end of the day, it is this specific issue that lowers the future residual values of these WK2 MY14/15 comparatively to previous model years, I would expect some compensation, as there is an implied expected declining residual value trend/curve year over year(as dealers love to quote you in negotiating lease rates/EOL values, or reassure you future resale values when buying) based on historic data. It may be the ones who leased these that end up winning in the end when they can just turn in the vehicle if it is worth less than the End Of Lease buyout...who knows.

Just my thoughts...
