Class Action Lawsuit?

Does anyone have any updated information on this? With the death of Anton Yelchin, there are those that are class action suing Fiat. I find it disheartening when some folks almost "demand" money for the unfortunate circumstances of another in a highly publicized incident. I don't want the money, I want the software fix. Does anyone know when it will be available? I checked my Mopar login, but there was nothing there.

Anyone have "inside" info when the update will be available?

Thanks,
Haze

The software update is out right now for the 3.6L and 5.7L... not yet for the diesel. Check with your dealer.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit?

I got my notice in the mail almost 2 weeks ago, but am in no rush to spend over 2 hours waiting for it to be done at the dealer.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit?

My dealership called me to inform me they were ready to go with the recall and to get my appointment scheduled. Had mine done last week and all went well. I'm not seeing much of a difference, though I did test the Auto Park and it seems fine by my standard. Not sure how long it actually took them, they had mine for around 5 hours total but they come to the house to pickup and drop off. For me it was as simple as a phone call.

Another friend and WK2 owner has the 5.7 and his dealership has not mentioned anything about it to him.

I agree, check with your dealership and if they're unsure, I wouldn't hesitate to contact FCA by phone.

They should mail out USB sticks like they did the "takeover security" fix. I won't wait 5 hours at the dealership for something that will probably be available for download by mid July.

Thx all.

The updates for the 4 required modules will never be availible for customer download this is different than uconnect updates. The dealer must do them, no choice unfortunately.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit?

Had mine done today. Not 5 hours. Took 2.5 hours just as the recall states.

Nobody is getting money as if Yelchin was their spouse. FCA is being sued because the plaintiffs allege that their vehicle's value has decreased substantially after Yelchin's high profile death, and that Jeep should be "punished" for not fixing the car in a timely manner (punitive damages) due to leaving those people unsafe for an unnecessary amount of time.

Although I don't want any money either, the fact that the courts can issue punitive judgements protect consumers from business people who might think that criminal behavior can outweigh the risks. (I.e. Many people would rob banks if they knew they would only have to pay the money back if they were caught.)

My 2c.

The sad part when it is corporations involved, the guilty parties don't suffer the brunt of the punishment. The stockholders which includes individuals, pension funds, etc., wind up paying. Somebody at Chrysler made the decision to ignore the problem. If the decision warrants some kind of punishment, that is where it should be directed. Too often that person retires with a golden parachute. Oh well!

The even sadder part of this is who benefits from class action lawsuits = lawyers. Some law firm will get a few million bucks, and each owner who enlists will get something like $100.

I definitely agree with both of you guys, I want to see the businessmen and women have some skin on the line. But the lawyers don't only benefit. If it wasn't for huge law firms and class-actions, corporations would only have to go up against your mom and pop attorney.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit?

I feel for the mans family, but is there really a problem with the GC? If the fix is just adding additional bells and chimes, then it seems like more of a user issue. I've never had an issue putting my GC in park.
