Sorry, no comparison. The 8 speed in the GC is not even close to as bad as the 9 speed. Fewer complaints, and much less severe.

Most people have no issue with the 8 speed and those that do typically complain that shifts aren't as smooth as they'd like. Compare that to the trouble you see on the Cherokee forums. Not even close.

I own one of each so I'm screwed either way. :-) So far, thankfully, both have been excellent, though the 9 is "quirky" compared to the 8.

Re: Class action lawsuit against Chrysler

100% agree, however, it's not as if the transmission was not working period.
I'd consider it dangerous at times for the default ECO mode (2014 model).
Best if you vote with your wallet, tell all your friends not to purchase a Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA), there is plenty of choice...
Myself while liking the utility of the SUV I'd only ever consider one with a turbo diesel engine, probably VW. If a 6cyl. gasoline engine than probably Honda Pilot or Acura MDX.

I was in the exact same boat as you!

I had a 2014 trailhawk and at 6,000 miles they replaced the transmission, still had rough shifts etc. you had 10 service appoints though. That should count for lemon law.

After me arguing with them and customer care etc. I got a deeply discounted JGC overland diesel. Mine was only 4 months old.
I still took it on the chin for $7-8k but I was done with the trailhawk and wrote it off. Now if there's ever a class action on the baby cherokee's and their junk tranny I'll get in on it and try to recoup my loss.

If you ask why did I double down on a jeep product, it was still less of a beating then not getting a discount and trading off the bum trailhawk.

I am very happy with my overland diesel. I've had zeroes issues, just hit 10k miles and did my first oil change. I got what a would refer to as a fully loaded overland, tech package, diesel, off road adv package with air suspension, nav, etc. I had the dealer special order it but came from stock not build to order so it only took a few weeks.
