Re: clean Throttle Body?

I just spent time, the ONLY thing I can find definitive, if the throttle body is DIRTY or has debris with a fault set, then the throttle body is to have the debirs removed if not, REPLACED.

Thats the best I can do.

This is from the 2005 FSM. Not sure it'll help. but worth a shot.

Good luck.

Re: clean Throttle Body?

Wow, I hope somebody can find the service manual info for drummer because this is insane! Like others mentioned there is no way it needed a cleaning, and even if it did its a 5min job with a shop rag so $154 is pure robbery. The dealership should be ashamed to scam customers like that. Fight till you get your $ back and NEVER go back to this dealer.

Many thanks for this . . . not exactly what I need, but I certainly appreciate your time and effort.

Duff Daddy, thanks for trying.

Unless anyone else has access to the official service manual, I guess I'm waiting for Milous to come through. Again, for new readers, I'm trying to confirm that the information contained here http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_maintenance.htm is directly from the service manual . . . a fact that jeep will "neither confirm nor deny." I laugh every time I think about that comment . . .

Thanks to everyone for your help.

Re: clean Throttle Body?

I've heard of so many people "cleaning their throttle bodies" and then having much better performance.

Look at a throttle body. The only way it would need cleaning is if you somehow got your GC to inject an apple and it got stuck in the throttle body.

I've had fuel injected vehicles with over 100,000 miles on them. The throttle bodies were clean as a whistle.

Re: clean Throttle Body?

All you have to do is remove the air inlet tube and check out any possible black deposits where the throttle plate seals the throttle body. If there are deposits, purchase a spray solvent that's label says it'll clean off the deposits. Works wonders at idle and mid range.

The warning was in original early versions of the WK service manuals but for whatever reasons has now been deleted... I checked the current versions of every WK manual from 2005-2013 and there are no cautions relating to TB cleaning. I'm still going to search through some service related documents and seeif there is anything addressing TB cleaning.

Thanks, Milous. So the warning on the wk2 page was indeed from an actual service manual?

Re: clean Throttle Body?

Ok. So the Chrysler "Executive Referrals Manager" has given me her final word. She has supplied me with the part number for a "Throttle Body Cleaner Kit," and tells me I should make sure the dealer used it. As for the all important question: "does the language stating that the throttle body CANNOT BE CLEANED exist in the manual http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_maintenance.htm," she will not answer yes or no. Such a simple question, which she refuses to answer. And such a simple way to lose a customer(s).

Re: clean Throttle Body?

Doing my research since I need to clean mine (truck shakes a bit on idle) and found this thread. I guess I will just use a microfiber towel with some alcohol to be safe.

No damage whatsoever on mine i gently cleaned with TB cleaner and cotton soft rag ...need to emphasize GENTLY also do not push on it, have some one turn key on (engine off) and press pedal to gently clean off with rag/finger ... NEVER SPRAY ANYTHING INTO THE TB... Will order catch can soon to see if it helps to keep clean
