I had no idea that is how you open it, thanks for sharing.

I'm not sure I would recommend this process.

Apart from the fun you'll have if that person accidentally starts the car, you are far more likely to damage the motor and electronics if they are energized and in operation than if the vehicle is off.

If the TB is disconnected, you will not damage it by manually opening the plate to clean it...many have cleaned the TB in this way without problems.

Thats robbery. Clean it yourself with a clean lintless rag and some cleaner for less than $2

Re: clean Throttle Body?

Pictures of the TB area and the TB itself would probably help.

Tough question. If it has never been done, you might want to do it.
As for the price? Well, it is a highly profitable item for the dealer and will just leave it at that. They do use cleaners you might not.

If you are comfortable taking it apart and using your significant other's toothbrush and old rags carefully, you can save roughly $198.

Then, I'd suggest Seafoaming it every few months.

Oh, and run the engine up to the upper revs, seems nobody mentioned that the 4.0 [which gets positively industrial sounding above 3K] tends to clean itself much better with an occasional Italian tune-up.

What I'm trying to determine is if the information on the WK2 web site is official jeep information, as appears in their service manuals.
The linked info would not apply to the older 4.0, which does benefit from cleaning the TB assembly. Just stuff a rag down there or saran wrap so you don't need to pull heads if you drop something. Then clean the butterfly and the sensor wires carefully.

As for wk2jeeps, Milous also lurks here.
The information there is highly accurate, and often more current than you could get from a dealer. e.g. the new recall for wk2 brake boosters seems about to appear.

Then have him buy a service manual. That's about as official as you can get, and is available online for a fee.

Or Read The Fine Owner's Manual section on maintaining your vehicle.

The ghost of P T Barnum lives in some dealerships.....
