Clear Oil Leaking from 2014 Grand Cherokee

Hey guys,

I had my oil changed in my car about 3 weeks ago, and ever since then, I noticed a tiny oil drip coming from the bottom of my car. At first I thought they just spilled some oil while pouring it in and it was just residual so I wiped it off and let it be. However, some weeks after, I noticed the oil again. Its not much, but it is starting to worry me. It could very well still be residual as it is still very clear (I checked the engine oil and it is brown in color already), but Im just wondering if anyone has an idea of what it could be. I have wiped it off of the silver part near the bolt on the left side of the picture. I can't find any oil elsewhere. I checked under the hood, and all under the car and the silver part is the only place I wiped the clear oil off of. Can it still be residual oil that was spilled or a worse problem?

Leaking drive shaft seal. I had the same thing happen on mine. That silver thing is the housing mount for the front diff.

What was the repair process for it? Just getting the seal replaced at the dealership. I didn't have this problem until the dealer changed the oil (they also switched out the front axle shafts a second time even though they were already switched for the grease problem).

If you had your drive shafts replaced there is a good chance this is the cause of the seal leaking they may have damaged the seals in the process. The engine oil change would have nothing to do with the front diff drive shafts leaking.

Ugh I just can't catch a break with this car. I told the dealership the shafts were already replaced and I had no problems with them and nd yet they insisted to replace them again and wouldn't release the car until they did. Now this problem as a result of it. It was leaking prior to when I brought it in.

Was it a long repair? This will be the 4th time I'm bringing the car in as a result of the drive shafts (twice to replace, twice to fix the problems caused by the dealership after the "repair"). Needless to say, I'm bringing it to a different dealership for this.

I think you're making a good choice switching dealerships. Just don't throw the old dealership under the bus to the new one... Sometimes they talk

lol... I had my fuel sender replaced and they broke a drive shaft in mine... yes... it broke. I will never ever again say that one thing has nothing to do with another. lol

I had a leak under my jeep which was in the same location as the leak you mentioned.
The dealership traced it back to a faulty engine mount.
It would appear that these jeeps have oil filled engine mounts.
Maybe something to consider looking into.
Cheers

Just curious... what was the dealer's excuse for replacing those shafts a second time after you told them that work had already been performed?

"The drive shafts were reengineered" I laughed at that one when the part numbers were exactly the same.

Lol holy crap, I can't catch a break with any dealership. I made an appointment last week for today with a different dealership since I had pretty bad service at my original one. I took it in today, and the dealership denied to even take a look at the car without me forking over a $130 diagnostic fee. Came in with a 4 month old car with 3400 miles on it with leaking oil. One would assume it would be under warranty (and I even have the extended lifetime warranty purchased through Mopar/Jeep). They even had the audacity that it could have been something I caused by hitting a pothole without even taking a look at the car (I didn't hit anything). How they could come up with that line, I don't know. Needless to say, I got a little loud when they accused me of causing this.

Im at a loss for words. I don't even care anymore. I took it back to the original dealer, told them to keep it as long as they want and to just fix it.

Did that the second after dropping off the car at the original dealership. Their line to the 1800 number customer service representative was "were not fixing something another dealership caused". Honestly it might not even be due to the oil change/axle replacement and a whole other issue, but they wouldn't even look at it. Complaint was filed with Chrysler.

This level of service is astonishing to me. My father owns a 2011 Kia Optima which cost $20,000 compared to the $43,000 of this jeep and he also had an oil leak earlier this week. The dealership took him right in, and the service manager even drove him home 10 miles away since he didn't have a ride. Car was fixed and home within 24 hours.

To anyone in the North Jersey area, the dealership is Route 4 Jeep of Paramus.
