"Click" felt through steering wheel (brakes?)

1900 miles on Limited. About a week ago I started noticing a "click" feeling felt through the steering wheel (feel it with hand(s) you have on wheel). This only occurs during the braking cycle. Seems to only be felt either as soon as brake pedal is first pressed or at the end of the braking cycle, when the car has stopped and rocks back a bit. Just a small click feeling that last a half second.

Any ideas?

My steering wheel does not seem to have any play in it. Not loose. It is off center to the right, which I plan on getting fixed soon.

Re: "Click" felt through steering wheel (brakes?)

I searched and found a TSB related to the intermediate shaft. It only applies to 2012 and 2012 vehicles.
I will mention that TSB to my dealer. I guess it is possible a 2015 could have the same issue.

While I can't say for certain that you're having the same issue that I did, replacing the intermediate steering shaft on my '14 Limited 4x4 cleared up mystearing click. My dealer's first response was that I was experiencing normaloperation; that I was sensing the 4x4 system engaging and disengaging. I wishyou the best of luck getting it sorted.

Re: "Click" felt through steering wheel (brakes?)

That is helpful. Thank you. It is a light click. Nothing jarring. But I feel it, and feel sure it was not there the first few weeks we owned it.

They acted like you were feeling it engage/disengage in "auto" mode? hmmm. I would not have thought the full time 4x4 system would feel that way, ever.

How did they decide on replacing the intermediate shaft? From the TSB on the earlier model years?

There was a TSB for 2011-12 WK2 for a "click" felt through steering wheel. It was a sticking shim or something simple they replace to correct it.

Re: "Click" felt through steering wheel (brakes?)

If I remember correctly, I gave them specific info on the TSB. They offered to have a tech drive it. He recognized the issue. I don't recall mention of the fix being a shim. I thought they replaced the entire intermediate shaft, but I could be wrong. It was about two years ago.

Here's somting that might assist in your diagnosis...

When my Jeep's allignment was good, and I was driving on a neutral surface (one that made the Jeep pull to neiter the right or the left) I felt the same clicking. That was a fairly rare scenario, since most of the roads I'm on are graded for drainage.

Re: "Click" felt through steering wheel (brakes?)

jrein: Thanks. And by your comment, you are meaning what? You felt the click at times just driving along, not even braking? I am feeling it at times when there is a dip in the road or maybe a bump. Not even during braking. I stopped by the dealership today and got a time scheduled to bring it in a week from Monday.

I would like it to be the intermediate shaft. I hate the thoughts of them having to fool with the actual steering wheel. Always a good chance they mess something up taking it apart/off or putting things back in place.

Re: "Click" felt through steering wheel (brakes?)

Yes, I did feel the click while driving without braking, but only on a level surface that didn't generate a pull to the left or right, so it was pretty rare and then very subtle. The click under breaking that I experienced seems the same as yours.

Hope you don't mind if I speculate for a moment...

You mentioned your steering wheel is off center to the right. Perhaps your Jeep was delivered out of allignment, many have been, which is preventing your jeep from ever being directionally neutral and so preventing you from experincing the click when driving on a flat surface without braking. Under braking, slight changes in toe angle provide moments of directional neutrality, freeing up slack in the intermediate steering shaft, creating the click.

Interesting. At the service appt. I definitely want the wheel straightened, but also will ask them to check the alignment.

"Click" felt through steering wheel (brakes?)

I had the same occasional "click" feeling in the steering wheel on my 2015 Overland under the same circumstances. Noticed it at around 2-3000 miles. By 6-7000 miles or so it was gone and hasn't returned (14000 on it now).

Re: "Click" felt through steering wheel (brakes?)

Dealership has it and will keep it overnight. Service technician drove it and said he felt the click. Thinks the (a) cross member is loose. He said he has seen it before in these vehicles. Will get to it in the morning.
