Climate control is way off (8-10 F) with A/C

Scenario: 86F outside temperature. I set inside temp to 72F. It blows strong for a short time, then settles at lower level. Temperature inside is 80F at this time (measured right above the cupholder area, AC not blowing directly at that area and it was in shade) and stays at that level. When it blows strong air temperature right at the vent is about 50F.

This is V6 4x4 FWIW

Thermometer I used to check is previous mode of this one:

While not a dedicated air thermometer I found it to be very precise and fast while measuring air temperature.

If anyone ran similar tests please share your experience. Not sure how it is with other cars/brands - maybe they are all like that. All I know is that my apartment window AC keeps temperature within 1-2F from what I set it to.

I don't feel like getting out of the recliner to go check, but I can tell you that mine is not within 1 -2 degrees. It is necessary to set temp. several degrees lower to get to same temp. interior temp. as in wife's Volvo. I think it is all relative, meaning not as exact a science as home a/c. You are in a vehicle that is not consistantly insulated and has a large unvented area behind the second row of seats. If you ran a/c with vehicle is the shade for an hour, temp at cup holders would even out. Main thing is that you are getting cold cold air from vents.
