Clunk in steering wheel when starting and stopping

I just picked up my GC Laredo X Hemi last week, and I noticed that there is a slight clunk in the steering wheel when I start and stop. It's not awful, but definitely noticeable and annoying. Also, the steering wheel squeaks when I turn. I know there's a TSB on the clunking, but my dealer doesn't really want to know from this on the phone. How should I address this with them when I bring it in? I have an appointment to take it to the dealer this Friday.

Re: Clunk in steering wheel when starting and stopping

The clunk can be the steering lock engaging or disengaging. Just turn the vehicle off and then dont open the doors. After about 10min you will hear the steering lock engaging. Turn the vehicle back on and it will disengage.

Re: Clunk in steering wheel when starting and stopping

I had the same problem with my 2011 limited I took it to the closest jeep dealership from my house and they where the biggest liers one of the techs took it for a test drive I was sitting in the passenger seat and the noise started out soft when I first got the jeep then just got louder as time went by and sometimes when I would turn sharp the steering would look up I all most slammed into a wall one time. Anyway the tech was driving and said more then once. There is defiantly something wrong so they took the jeep in for service a couple days later I got the jeep back and they said they replaced the steering shaft. Sound was still there when tested it out so I go back into the dealership and talk to the same tech that test drove it he then said that sound is normal. I was like are you kidding me. So I took it to another dealership and they fixed it with no problem they said all it was. Was a wiring harnest that they don't use rubbing on the steering shaft

Re: Clunk in steering wheel when starting and stopping

I took it in....it was definitely the lower intermediate shaft (TSB). They had to order the part, and I'll take it back and have it changed when it comes in. I wouldn't characterize mine as a major issue the way Poolguyz has. It's VERY subtle, and I think many drivers wouldn't even notice it.
