Cold making windows pop

Had an interesting issue the last few days with pretty severe cold weather where several (if not all) windows make a really loud popping sound. Sounds like a pop or maybe thunk – similar to having a rock hit underneath or maybe a light hammer against the glass. This morning it was at least 3x from the back area (I think at least 2 different windows in back) and once from the passengers’ side window. Today it was particularly bad as it was -15F outside but other mornings this week around +10F it has happened as well. My garage is not heated and is typically 30-40F. Anyone had this? I can’t recall it happening last year – maybe some bushings need to be lubed and are binding up as things shrink / expand…? I’d hate to break a window in this cold.

Re: Cold making windows pop

Mine has been popping too albeit not as much as yours. I assume from the rear it is hatch shifting as the body flexes, and I notice it more when snow or ice is physically on the jeep. Front window pops once in a while too but I have not noticed it with the side windows. Had similar experience with my Maxima. Hope this helps....but if it is excessive have your dealer look at it for piece of mind.

Re: Cold making windows pop

I have heard popping from the sunroof and body joints when the vehicle is covered in ice, but the times I have noticed the noises have been after leaving an above freezing garage. The sound is also different - less of a crack and scrape noise and more thunk / pop.
