My 13 JGC 3.6 makes the exact same noise.

Had thought it might have been due to the extreme cold we've been having up North here.

Have not had a chance to stop by and quiz my tech at the dealership.

Thanks again for the video!

Re: Cold weather starting noise

Same whistling noise, just not nearly as bad as yours. Mine would whistle for a few seconds only.

They started out replacing the power steering pump, then the alternator, then they finally swapped out the belt, tensioners and pulleys.

Basically I had everything that could spin under the hood replaced!

I still dont know if was the belt or the tensioners, but the problem didnt come back after the really cold weather we just had, and has been quiet this winter.

Though it a pain in the a$$, just keep bringing the Jeep back till they fix it.

Re: Cold weather starting noise

I had called the dealership and there were not giving it any concern. They say it is normal. This is the most expensive vehicle I have ever purchase to want to hide when it starts up cold.
Has anyone tried belt dressing with any sucess?

Re: Cold weather starting noise

did you guys try replacing the PCV ? I know on my old Volvo when it makes a noise like that, the pcv is clogged. you guys should give that a try since its so simple and cheap to replace ours on the 5.7L

Thanks for the reply.

The weather has warmed up out here, -15c in the morning.
So no noise to show the dealership at the moment.
Will update if and when it happens again.

Re: Cold weather starting noise

When it was -25C here for 2 days, I had it plugged in for 3 hours on timer before starting it in the morning, and no noise. Parked at work all day. and noise happens for a couple seconds. The block heater must be doing something to eliminate the noise.

Re: Cold weather starting noise

Have a 2012 JGC Limited with 8,600 miles. Car is garage kept and not parked outside. Went out of town and parked my car outside overnight. The temperature was below zero (-9). Remote started the car from the house. It made the exact!!! same noise as yours. Took it to the dealer when I got back home. This is what they found: with a stethscope listen to all belt pullies on start up & shut off. Found alternator bearing whistling & idler bearing whining both come and go. Replaced alternator & idler pulley both covered under warranty. Started car this morning -8 outside no noise at all. Hope this helps.

Re: Cold weather starting noise

Maybe we can demand it be fixed under warranty?
We can share the pully fix to save them time.

Re: Cold weather starting noise

I also have the noise - 2012 Larado X with hemi - when starting in cold. Lasts for up to several minutes. I notice it varies as I turn the steering wheel so suspect power steering related as noted earlier in this thread.

Mine "screeched" for a split second on start up once or twice, but only sitting outside at the office all day in unusually cold temps (-40 wind chills). It was maybe 1 second, and super cold. So it didn't bother me...with temps that cold I'm just happy it started, lol.
