i have a limited with the front collision warning. seems like it only goes off at random times. how is it designed to work? id like for it to detect the wall when i pull in to the garage but no such luck. even sitting at a stop light i will try and roll up on someone to get it warn me and it does not go off. what is it designed for?

I think it is speed dependent, not active until you get over a certain speed.

Mine has gone off a few times when going thru a construction zone. Abrupt lane shift marked with orange barrels. BRAKE flashes on the EVIC and a warning chime sounds.

^^^^

Seems like it work just like my moms SHO. Made to go off when your about to ass pack someone not made as a park asst. If your closing in on a object at a fast rate, the warning is going to pop on. At least in the SHO, the sensor isn't perfect, on a country 2 lane road as I'm about to pass someone, it would go off. My guess is that yours do the same thing.

My goes off when driving curvy roads (which is most of the time with me) - signs at corners will set it off. Same thing happens with the auto headlights - they will dim when I'm approaching a curve that has a sign on it. The light part is so annoying that I just turn it off unless I"m driving on a straight road with traffic (which can only be turned off when the car is stopped - pis-poor "safety" feature there).

You're not using the switches correctly.

EVIC setting only activates the Auto High Beams if the light switch is in the 'Auto' position AND the stalk to the left of the steering wheel is pressed to its forward position.

Even if EVIC is set to Auto High Beams, you can rotate the light switch to the rightmost position (i.e. headlights 'On'), then control the high and low beams manually with the stalk.

You don't have to stop the vehicle and alter EVIC settings.

I wounder how the auto headlights would work out here on the Aus outback roads.
We have white reflectors on the oncoming side of the road and red ones on the other mounted about 3 feet up on white post every 100 yards. Don't know if you have these in the US.
Would the cause the auto lights to dim?
And set of the collision warning?

this isn't high-tech, but it worked for stuffing my Silverado into the garage:

1. park the JGC where you'd like it.
2. tie a fabric softener sheet to a string long enough to reach from windshield to garage ceiling.
3. attach string to ceiling so the sheet just barely touches the windshield.

when parking, stop when the windshield touches the sheet.

hope this helps...

Yeah I have a tennis ball hanging on some cord fromt he auto door motor. Works perfectly with 6in front and rear in a tight garage.

I think it is speed dependent, not active until you get over a certain speed.
It is speed differential dependent. You must be going a certain speed relative to the object being detected in front of you by the sensor, and not applying the brakes enough already to be able to slow enough to avoid a collision. The closer you get to an object, the lower the differential speed can be to set it off. If you are going 50mph approaching the rear end of a stopped car, it will go off at a certain distance. If you are going 35mph approaching the same stopped vehicle it won't go off until you are much closer than it will at 50mph.

It is for collision avoidance, to warn you if you might have taken your eyes off the road ahead for a second or two and the vehicle in front of you brakes suddenly. It is not a parking assist feature. If you want that, back into the parking space and the rear parking assist will beep at you when you get close.

If you are going slowly, like when you are parking in a garage, it will never go off as the the vehicle isn't going fast enough relative to the garage wall. If you were to go fast enough, say 40mph, when approaching your garage it should go off when you are part way through your driveway, in time that if you were to brake hard when it went off you would avoid hitting the back wall of the garage. It still wouldn't guarantee exactly how far from the garage wall you would stop.

Do you not get the front parking sensors in the USA ?
They are standard on the Overlands here in Australia, as is the rear sensors and camera. Come to think of it, I am pretty sure that the f/r sensors are standard across the range.

Hey Guys! I just posted a similar question around the Forward Collision Warning system on a separate thread. Wish I found this one. I've been trying to obtain specs from Chrysler and from the dealership on exactly how this system should function and no one can provide it to me. I'm really riding them to get these details...can't believe a service department doesn't have this information...how can they fix it ever if they don't know how it's supposed to work?

At any rate, I've discovered that it only works on stationary objects and to be honest when it's almost too late! Requires some quick reaction time to ensure you don't get into an accident - far cry from being an avoidance mechanism. :) A sleepy driver would be buried under the back of a truck, for sho! Then again, that's probably Darwin's theory at its best.

Long story short, I think the guys didn't get it right. I've looked up the federal guidelines for Collision Warning systems and this one definitely isn't working accordingly, in my opinion. I could be missing some details, again because I have no idea how it's configured to work.

If anyone can truly confirm that it works without fail and can replicate the behavior would love to hear from you. I have not been able to reproduce on any moving targets....probably pissed a lot of people off accelerating into their rear ends at high speeds! :)
