Coolant Flush 2014 WK2 3.6L

If anyone can help please chime in. I was looking over the fluids in my 2014 Limited Grand Cherokee 3.6L today and noticed this gunk under my coolant cap. After looking it up I'm assuming the dealership used the wrong coolant??. I guess my grand cherokee uses the purple OAT coolant and the fluid is red/orange looking. Obviously im worried about the gunk buildup under the cap, can this be flushed and re-filled properly?? Also does my jeep require the purple fluid?? I called pepboys and they said they use the "all makes all models" coolant which im assuming is just prestone 50/50. Is this safe to use or should I just get it changed at the dealer and pay an arm and a leg?? PICTURES ATTACHED

Re: Coolant Flush 2014 WK2 3.6L

According to WK2Jeeps your year should only use the purple color antifreeze. Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - Maintenance information and schedules.
OAT coolant is purple in color. It cannot be mixed with other types of coolant including Chrysler's existing HOAT coolant and only should only be mixed with approved OAT coolant of the same color. Maintenance of the cooling system is not required unless a repair has been made with loss of coolant or the coolant has been contaminated.

CAUTION: Mixing of engine coolant (antifreeze) other than specified Organic Additive Technology (OAT) engine coolant (antifreeze), may result in engine damage and may decrease corrosion protection. Organic Additive Technology (OAT) engine coolant is different and should not be mixed with Hybrid Organic Additive Technology (HOAT) engine coolant (antifreeze). If a non-OAT engine coolant (antifreeze) is introduced into the cooling system in an emergency, it should be replaced with the specified engine coolant (antifreeze) as soon as possible.

First Mistake is going to Pepboys.. Secondly how many miles? the Purple is good for over 100k miles and 10 years. What made you think you needed a coolant flush by these dewb's if the filler neck is full of crap like that Imagine what the Heater core/ Thermostat etc water jackets etc look like now.

Yes the Purple is what is required for yours.

Your looking at pretty penny to replace with proper fluid plus labor etc.

Factory fill is 14Quarts so atleast 3 gallons at roughly $50/gallon Plus labor etc.

Lesson learned.

If this means the Jeep dealership did this, I would call them and have them tow the vehicle in and make it right. If it was Pepboys, they owe you the repair service. If you did it yourself, you're screwed.

Re: Coolant Flush 2014 WK2 3.6L

That sludge does not look good at all. I would have the entire system flushed ASAP.
