So I drove my wife’s JCG the other day (2012 Limited V8, about 58k miles) and noticed the coolant temperature increased all the way up to about 228 degrees before coming down very rapidly to about 205-210. The analog gauge only went up to approximately the half way point. While on the highway, it fluctuated between 215 and 195 (I was doing about 80 and it was about 85 degrees outside). I drove it a couple more times and it did this pretty regularly (up to 228 during warmup then back down to 210 thereafter). I checked the coolant level and it’s full.
From my recollection, it used to go up to about 206 and stay there under normal driving conditions. I haven’t noticed this before but I don’t drive her car very often so I’m not sure if this is considered “normal”? Anyone have a similar experience or has something failed on the cooling system?
I would guess it's a thermostat hanging up or only opening partially.
