Cracked head - 2012 v6

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed my 2012 V6 was idling a little rough. I could notice that the headlight intensity was changing when the tachometer was bouncing around too.

Thought maybe water in gas or something else that was transient. A couple of days later, engine light came on. Took it to dealer and said it was registering misfire on cylinder 4 (if I remember cylinder # correctly) and that I had a cracked head. They could even see exhaust escaping from the head.

Service manager said it was a common problem with pentastars and were surprised that they in fact did not have a spare head in their stock because it was so common. Engine has never over heated or shown any precursors leading up to this. Very strange in my opinion...

Never got an answer as to why this is a problem. Was fixed in a couple of days and seems to be fine now.

Anyone else have a similar experience or other thoughts in general?

Never heard of it on the Pentastar (just kidding). Usually # 2 cylinder.

Very common for some but usually #2. It has been alleged that there was some faulty machining of heads specifically the valve guides but have not heard of cracked heads before.

Chrysler has replaced a lot of '11, '12, & early '13 heads. I have a lifetime warranty through Chrysler and check about monthly for misfires so am not concerned.
