Re: Creaking sound from passenger side front wheel area. Dealer does not know cause.

I have creaking noises coming from my 2014 Overland too. Seems to be from front left. Can replicate it at slow speeds by burning steering wheel sharply or driving over speed bumps etc. Had it in at my dealer for 10K service last week, mention it to them, they said they sorted it but they didn't. Turns out my dealer is rubbish. Got it booked in at another dealer for next week. Let's hope they can sort it. The above posts should give me something to show them if they are scratching there heads.

Check out the "three pointed / crazy boomerang" shaped plate just behind and inside of the front wheel. Refer centre of photo. Between the plate and the "chassis" there is a rubber bush. It may be rubbing under certain conditions? Maybe try a spray of water to see if the fault changes, and if not you could wait until dry and repeat with lube spray.

I had a similar problem... it was actually my fault and I'd bent it, but the clearance is tight by default so it's not inconceivable that it could happen "out of the box".

Cheers,
Steve

I had that problem too and my dealer said the nuts were loose on the sway bars. This happened after they'd replaced the leaking CV shafts and prob did not reassemble something correctly. I took the technician for a ride to prove the noises and he knew just what is was.... Fixed it on that visit and it never came back!

I have a 2014 limited and I hear a creak from what I believe is the driver front side when climbing the entrance of my driveway...it doesn't happen all the time but I have been noticing it more recently.

Sounds familiar......I've had the same for several years and the noise only appears some of the time. I had my dealer check this out on a visit and of course they found nothing.

I'd be having a very close look in this area if you have similar problems.

I paid $480 from two new brackets, though probably should have just bent them back as above.

I had the same issue and did the fix that Steve recommended on my 2013 Grand Cherokee and all worked just fine. No More squeak - thanks Steve!

I too had this creaking suddenly appear a few days later after a pretty bad rainstorm. It was coming from the passenger side foot-well. The noise mainly happened at low speed and whenever I touched the brakes, or turned in the driveway. My vehicle is a 2012 GC Ltd with about 73K on the ODO.

After removing the RF rear cradle cross-member bolt and stiffener brace, I noticed rust on a couple of the small bolts, especially the one towards the rear of the cross-member bolt.

I cleaned all of those up and hit the rust with some rust converter primer.

Re-assembled everything and torqued the cross-member bolt to 130 ft-lbs and the 4 bracket bolts to 15 ft-lbs.

All is quiet.

Re: Creaking sound from passenger side front wheel area. Dealer does not know cause.

I just went through this, but with the drivers side. Turns out the issue was the left front upper rearward control arm nut was super loose, and the upper driver side air bag nuts were loose. Apparently, it's hard to reach that control arm nut, so it's possible that dealerships are overlooking it out of laziness.

But I'm soooooooooooo happy to have the noise gone. It was sucking the soul out of me. It ironically started happening shortly after a wheel alignment and tire rotation.

I had the same noise. Dealer ordered and replaced the lower control arm.
