Damage by DEALER, complain or leave it??

So I had to get my backup camera replaced because it was constant static all the time. When I went to pick up the Jeep from the dealer all was fine and dandy, new camera worked great, no more issues.

Then when I got home I cleaned the car up and while doing so noticed some damage on the tailgate right below the rear window. It looks as if they tried to remove the rear glass with a crowbar or something and marred up the paint in 4 different spots doing so. I don't know if they didn't realize the glass doesn't flip up or what. It was unneccesary damage that is minor but enough to drive me nuts. My wife didn't even see it until I pointed it out, so it's not all that noticeable. But I know it's there.

What do you think, should I complain to the dealer to fix it? Or will I be causing myself more anguish by having them try to fix it and probably end up creating more problems.

This is why I hate going to the dealer for things, they take no care in anything!!

Here are the pictures:

I would be pissed too if they did it.

Can it buff out with something like a 3M paint polish or some other cleaning product?

Only problem is you left the lot and now the dealer can say they are not liable since you drove away with the vehicle and found the problem after the fact.

I always go over my vehicles with a magnifying glass (not literally but you understand) before I leave the dealership lot. Even if it takes 30 minutes for me to check everything out.

IMO

all you will get at the dealer is more anger/

with some work that can all be reversed. I would just eat it.

next time you have to go to stealer......when they do that walk around to sell you tires......take pictures of all sides make sure you get the wheels....front back .....4 pics

if he asks what you doing you are documenting the CONDITION of the car and you expect back the same way. i also hang a DO NOT WASH tag on my mirror.

anyway.....post some pics on adams sub forum and Nick@Adams will help you get rid of that ( that is IF you need help) .

Re: Damage by DEALER, complain or leave it??

Take it to a reputable detailer in your area and have them give you an estimate on how much it will cost to have them fix it. Then take that estimate to the dealer and tell them you're going to get the work done and they'll need to foot the bill. If they refuse, escalate it to the owner of the dealership; if they still refuse, take it up with Chrysler. Don't have them fix it themselves or have them take it to someone, they've already proven they can't really be trusted as far as I'm concerned.

You'll probably want to notify them that they created the issue before you do all this though. Best of luck!

Re: Damage by DEALER, complain or leave it??

Yeah it was already dark when I picked up the vehicle and didn't notice the damage until the next morning. I called the dealer right away and explained it to them and the front desk lady said the Manager was out today and to bring it in on Monday. After that call, I later followed up with an email to them attaching the same photos I showed you.

Here is the body of my email:
"
On Tuesday, I had the backup camera replaced due to a nonfunctioning unit. Unit was fixed and the camera works fine now. However, in picking the Jeep up and later cleaning it, I discovered there are 4-5 damaged areas of paint from it being serviced. It appears as if someone had tried to pry/force the rear window up with a crow bar or some kind of tool while trying to gain access to the backup camera. In the process, the paint was marred up pretty good. Not sure why this was attempted as that is the incorrect way to access the tailgate wiring as the 2014 Jeeps no longer have the flipper glass. The technician must of later discovered this as he/she was able to properly access the camera through the plastic trim panel on the inside rear (which is the correct procedure). (I know this because the interior trim panel was never put back on fully).
In any event, I have spoken to April with the front desk service department and she instructed that I bring the Jeep in on Monday to be looked at. In the meantime I wanted to supply some photos to identify the damages that were sustained during this service work. I understand these type of things can happen and am not upset as I am confident as a reputable dealer you will work to fix these damages.
Thank you!"

I'm not sure if it can or not, the paint scuffs look pretty deep so not sure anything will fix it other than it being repainted.

I would take it back asap and show the service manager.
He may not always be aware of stuff, and MAY be willing to make good on it, and may
be interested in having a chat with the techs about not causing more damage than they fix.

Maybe not, but what do you lose by asking politely and firmly?

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. I figure the more calm I remain the less aggravated they will get and be more likely to help me. I put the pressure on them by remaining a positive customer and referring to them as a "reputable dealer" in hopes that they wouldn't want to jeopordize that status.

Personally,if it was my vehicle I would tape the glass and attempt to polish it myself.
3m polish kit and some elbow grease should make it all good.
It's in a very inconspicuous spot and should turn out just fine.
Having the dealer paint that trim may not be the best solution.
Good luck!

I've never used a polish kit so not sure how to do it, but I'd rather do anything than take it back to the dealer (as I'm afraid they will make it worse). So I may give this a try.

Where do I buy this stuff?
