Has anyone had to have their power control module replaced yet? The dealer found out ours had to be replaced when the alternator and battery burned up last week.
I have been doing some digging and I can not find out much about the PCM or where it is located in the jeep? Also how much these things run?
Its covered under warranty but I am just curious if any of you guys have had to have yours replaced or have any knowledge on the subject.
Mine was replaced when my Jeep was a couple of months old. This is during the time that Chrysler was trying to figure out what was causing the "Christmas Tree Dash".
I believe it is the silver colored thing that sits on the right (passenger) side under the hood. It's right up front, looks like a big heat sink, with a bunch of wires plugged in.
It was done in a very short time, while I waited. It was under warranty, so I never paid attention to cost.
Just a reminder ... I said I believe ... I could be wrong.
This sometimes happens with bad grounds. If a major ground comes loose, the circuit energy tries to return through smaller weaker grounds burning them out. I would be concerned that something else may have burned as well.
That being said, ECUs do burn out though and they are not cheap new, >$1000. Luckily, anytime I've had to replace one, I was able to find it at a junk yard for substantially less. I don't have a 12+ jeep so I can't tell you where it is specifically.
