Likewise sentiments as everyone else is saying...so glad you weren't hurt! That looks really bad, sorry that happened. Good luck.

Re: Deer 1 - 2012 GC Overland 0

No air bags deployed. State patrolman on scene thought deer rolled over air bag sensors preventing deployment. I was shocked after force of impact that the air bags didn't activate.

Re: Deer 1 - 2012 GC Overland 0

Sad to hear about this, but glad you are ok. Unlikely to be totalled for that damage, that's a lot less than I had on a vehicle a few years ago and the ACV is likely still well north of the damage repair cost.

Unfortunately that doesn't look totalled, wish it was for your sake. Looks fixable and the point it was hit was a weak point of the front end.

Re: Deer 1 - 2012 GC Overland 0

Thanks for the feedback on the damage, not sure whether it's better to get it written off as totaled - or fix it. If I fix it, then it always shows up when you try to sell or trade it in.

Either way, I love my Jeep and if it has to be repaired, I know it's in the right spot - they do major muscle car restorations and have been in business since 1976.

I was already thinking this morning of a blacked out grill and other stuff similar to that that I might have done, while it's in the shop - if that's the route the insurance company goes. I will stress I only want MOPAR replacement parts though.

Re: Deer 1 - 2012 GC Overland 0

Just got prelim word from my insurance agent that body shop has the Jeep down as totaled. Waiting for appraiser to check damage out most likely on Monday before further word.

Either way I'm taking it in the shorts - although the Jeep saved my ass.

Be glad, yeah you are going to take a hit with the money but you don't want that thing back after its been torn up like that. Now you have an excuse to buy the 2014 think of it that way

Re: Deer 1 - 2012 GC Overland 0

Not many people understand how crash sensors (for airbags) operate. Here's a Cliffs Notes version:

Frontal impact sensors (or the corresponding safing sensors) are actually sensing deceleration forces. So even if you hit a deer at high speed, it wouldn't' surprise me if the air bags didn't deploy, considering the fact that even a large deer is nowhere near as heavy as your Jeep. Think about it--the purpose of frontal air bags is to keep you from smashing up against the steering wheel/dashboard/windshield the way you would if you drove head on into a cement wall. But the deer didn't cause the same kind of decelerative forces, in which case you wouldn't want the air bags to deploy at all.

^This! Very glad no one was injured. What a huge break for you and anyone else around to walk away from a 70MPH head on collision with a deer.

Thie Jeep could have rolled or been piledriven into something else, the deer could have flown through the windshield or at other cars, or there could have been a major pile up including your second family car.

Go car shopping.
