That sucks man! The good thing is the Jeep did its job which was to protect your body. Hope you have better luck with your new 14!

Glad you are OK. And turn this lemon experience into lemonade with a MY14.

Just hoping to get definite word on settlement amount if approved.

It's hard sitting around wondering what's up. I'm going through Jeep withdrawal.

Re: Deer 1 - 2012 GC Overland 0

My last vehicle was totaled after I hit a deer. What a frustrating time.

Hang in there, and luckily you are okay.

The buck was estimated by Colorado State Patrol to have weighed at least 300 lbs. if not more. Speed @ impact was 75 mph, with ACC on.

I just have no idea what insurance companies do when totaling out a vehicle, if the depreciation is going to kill me in the settlement, etc. Hopefully I find out on Monday what's up, so I can move forward and get into another Jeep.

I seriously think the Jeep saved me, although it would be nice to see a lot more rigidity in the front bumper/grill area (all designed to collapse by design, more than likely). I wonder how an ARB bull bar would have fared when encountering the deer and what damage would have ensued then.

More rigidity = internal injuries........

The reason for the crumple zone is to absolve the crash forces so your body doesn't have to.............

I understand the concept completely.

Unfortunately, because of the crumple zone - it guarantees major damage in any collision.

You're completely right through MAXGroup. Note they use bull bars quite a bit down under for protection though!

Re: Deer 1 - 2012 GC Overland 0

Insurance companies do what they want. If you want, after they offer to pay a certain amount, shop and see if you can find a duplicate replacement (same year, same equipment, same condition) for that much. If not challenge them to do so. If they can not, then the offer is too low.

Given the 300 lb buck and 75 mph speed at impact, likely that the bull bar would have not had any incremental benefit, and would have just folded like a lawn chair, if not sheared off. They are primarily intended for bumps, low speed impacts, and to perhaps fend off lightweight debris.

IMO, better that the car took the impact vs occupant, and better that it was totalled vs. major repairs.
