Design flaw in anti-theft alarm system

Hi,

Today I found I was driving without my horns working. A car changed lanes on front of me really close, so I tried to use my horn and it didn't worked. When I arrived home I inspected the front of my jeep and found there where cutted cables on both horns. They are clearly intentionally cut and there are even small marks on the plastic mesh grill. Looking at it now, with the current position of the horns in front of the radiator with the cables clearly visible its really easy to cut the cables and disable the horn and therefore the audible anti-theft alarm. I was lucky the thief's didn't had time to try to enter my car... there are no marks anywhere. For me this is a clear design flaw... and now the bad guys know these cars alarm can easily be disabled... so beware.

I attached 2 pictures, one of each horn... the cutted cables can be seen in there.

Re: Design flaw in anti-theft alarm system

your pics don't really show me anything? maybe when they installed it they didn't give a shit and just popped it in.

so i don't think it's a design flaw and your title is mis-leading

etA: and majority of people ignore car alarms anyways.

Maybe it was a neighbor-- who was tired of hearing your car beep lock or beep unlock when you arrived home at late hours??

Definitely setting up the steal. Probably got interrupted and never got back to it.

Mongoose9400 is an unknown quantity at this point
I think you can bust the windows out and it doesn't trigger the alarm either lol. Factory alarms are a joke for security. They are just keyless entry systems with a horn attached.

If you want security. Go after market. Have it hooked up to GPS tracking, page your smartphone, tilt sensors, glass break sensors, shock sensors, etc.... Still may not prevent a theft, but you'd be paged right away on your phone to know about it.

Re: Design flaw in anti-theft alarm system

Updated the pictures.. now circled in red where the cutted cables can be seen.

This is an export model so it doesn't beep when locking or unlocking... neighbor ruled out. It also has the "premium security alarm", that has motion sensors on the overhead console (IPM Intrusion module, seems standard on export models)... so busting the windows out actually triggers the alarm here. But why bother designing a "premium" security system... that triggers an audible alarm if it can be disabled in a few seconds!! at least don't make the cables as accesible as they are right now!

Re: Design flaw in anti-theft alarm system

Contacted my dealer and they told me they have already received a couple of GC with the same issue. When repairing the cables they are trying to re-route them in order to try to hide them a little bit more but with the current position of the horns there is not much that can be done..... they concurr its a design flaw.
