Re: Did Shudder TSB fix a problem?

sorry to take this thread off track... or maybe put it back on (haha) but i had the first version of the TSB executed, and then the SECOND updated version of the TSB executed, and the problem remains.
All i got both times though was a re-flash.

can somebody comment as to whether or not i was due a new DTCM?
anyone know what version of the software would have been flashed for the first TSB? the updated TSB says if the software is "AF" or greater, the DTCM need not be replaced. if it is not, replace it. was "AF" or greater being flashed in the first one? if i had the first TSB executed, does that mean that maybe now i have "AF" when before i didnt, and had i waited would have recieven a new DTCM?
my point is i'm worried that the dealer tried to rush me out with some software when in reality i needed a whole new dtcm for a proper fix.
just trying to figure out how this works... also, ive been screwed by dealerships too many times.
thanks!

Re: Did Shudder TSB fix a problem?

its obviously something in the programming of the tranny control module causing a shudder in the drivrtrain. There was a TSB very similar to this in the 05-07 4.7 QT2 Jeeps. IMO...its more of an annoyance than a mechanical issue.

Regardless of the amount of pre-productrion testing it would be impossible to catch every possible issue that could arise. With all of the different equipment and models you have thousands of possible variations/scenerios that could lead to any number of issues. No manufacturer has ever achieved 100% reliability, and I doubt that any ever will.

You're way off the mark. The WK2 was NOT "rushed" to market. The first gen GC ran 6 years (1993-1998), the 2nd gen ran 6 years (1999-2004), and the 3rd gen ran 6 years (2005-2010), just as planned. Technically the WK2 release was just two months ahead of the normal mid-summer production start. And the Chrysler bankruptcy did not put them behind very much where they would have had to make up for the lost time - the GC was one of a couple vehicles in which work was continued on during the shut down.

Re: Did Shudder TSB fix a problem?

What is 100% Reliability?

Impossible with a mass produced vehicle.

Of course, you cannot tell Japanese-vehicle owners that. They think their vehicles are perfect and if a check engine light comes on, and black smoke comes out of the exhaust, it's a "maintenance issue".

Let that happen to anything from GM, Ford or Chrysler, it's a piece of crap.

I'm talking about my aunt here. Her Lexuses are... just... ugh. When I told her I had 0 issues with my Grand Cherokee, she almost thought I was lying.

Re: Did Shudder TSB fix a problem?

Hey Marlon, I know exactly what you mean. My family has owned a variety of American and foreign cars (Chevy, GMC, Pontiac, Cadillac, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Lexus, BMW, Acura, Honda, Infiniti) and any time there is an issue (no matter how small) with the American car my Dad and brother just start ragging on American cars but yet when there are much bigger problems with the foreign cars they are "perfect" and they conveniently forget any issues.

My brother for example REFUSES to buy an American car because "they are pieces of s&*#," but his track record is a '97 Honda Accord that had to have the hood, roof and trunk lid repainted by Honda do to the paint pitting and cracking after it was 1-2 yrs old along with interior trim/console pieces that kept popping off the dash, a '00 Acura 3.2TL that had to have the transmission replaced at 53,000 miles because it blew up (apparently common problem on '99-'01 Acuras, so bad that Honda had to cover them well out of warranty) as well as paint that chips even if you look at it and door panels that warped around the window control panels after 2-3 years, and currently a '05 Infiniti G35 Coupe that eats tires every 10-12k miles (at $1,500 a POP) because it is impossible to keep the car in alignment (widespread problem on the Infiniti as well as the 350Z which actually had a class action lawsuit against Nissan) as well as paint that started chipping on the front from bugs/rocks after 6 months old (to be told by the dealer, yeah we know, the paint is bad on these cars but Infiniti doesn't warranty that...here's a good body shop you can go to for repairs if you want...). Yet he loves his Japanese cars and is currently shopping for a NEW Infiniti. I told him after the issues he's had it would make me never want to buy another Infiniti!?!

I could go on with examples but the point is people have their opinions, mostly unfounded, and it is next to impossible to get them to change. I on the other hand have always loved Grand Cherokees in appearance but couldn't stand the cheapness of the interiors and overall way they were built along with the reliability issues and didn't think I would ever own one. Yet the '11 Grand Cherokee is SO good that here I am about to order one and spend almost $50k on a JEEP! Just shows you have to judge a vehicle on it's own merits and not go with the stereotypes...

shuddering acceleration: who has it?

i know that i'm not alone. we all have these nice expensive new jeeps and maybe we dont want to admit somethings wrong (i know i dont want to), but seriously. who has the shuddering?
i have it, even after having the TSB done to my truck. it is much less, but still absolutely there.
anyone have the TSB totally fix the problem?
who did the TSB and still has it?
who just has it?
consider this one of the first "whats wrong with my jeep" threads for the wk2.
(didnt post in the troubleshooting forum because not much wk2 traffic there yet)
