Re: Did Shudder TSB fix a problem? 2011 Shudder problems thread

I have the V8 and for the first time I might be feeling what you are referring to as a shudder. For me, it feels like the engine is missing or not smooth on the highway only, cruising about 100-120 km/hr. I've done 1250 km and why just now.
Could it be some "bad" gas I picked up last. Has anyone tried 91 octane to see if it makes any difference? I'll try some high octane in the mean time from a different station.

My 3.6 GC Limited was built July 7. There was a TSB to flash the PCM in August. Some shudder, stutter problems continued. The following was performed last week Under a revised TSB dated Sept 25) and appears to have smoothed everything out. That includes eliminating hesitation on launch and some shifting roughness in Auto mode. Check TSBs at wk2jeeps.com

I just spoke with a service adviser and will be taking mine in this afternoon. He wants to test drive it and see. I'll follow up here.

Have him reference Star Case # S1021000002 (front axle isolator).

Milous,

1) What is the cause for the shudder? This TSB:

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_2100410a.pdf

doesn't explain the reason.

2) Can you explain what vehicles are affected? Is it specific engine/transmission/transfer case configuration? Specific production dates?

Re: Did Shudder TSB fix a problem? 2011 Shudder problems thread

Well, I just picked up the Jeep and was told all seems normal.

I quote from the invoice:
" road tested at 120 (km/hr) drives fine did not find any hesitation ran smooth. scanned NOT codes in system. customer may be feeling MDS kicking in. to drive and monitor 85410900."

I have to admit the sensation I'm feeling is very subtle. I just had to check it out since I'm going on a road trip to Montreal this weekend. I'll see how it goes and will take it back if I'm still concerned. I did not mention anything about TSB.

wk2overland is just really nice
Re: Did Shudder TSB fix a problem? 2011 Shudder problems thread

on the highway you very well could be picking up on MDS.
the shudder that this thread was originally started because of is during acceleration.

A new advisory has been issued for:

1. Vehicles built before July 26th with electronic axle, that have had the TSB performed and that still have the shudder problem.

2. All vehicles built on or before January 9th, 2011 that exhibit shuddering. The shuddering is described as happening between 40-55 MPH.

The new procedure involves replacing the front axle isolator, p/n 52124632AD.

Alright, I will bite and speculate what I think this means:

1) some (all?) of these front axle isolators are bad and cause shuddering. How they are bad and what exactly causes shuddering is still unclear to me.

2) each and every car built before January 9 2011 can potentially have this problem.

Item 2) is something I am really confused about: if Chrysler knows this part is bad why not start using good part now? I assume they already have good parts if new TSB is about to be released.

Re: Did Shudder TSB fix a problem? 2011 Shudder problems thread

It definitely makes sense. It is from the front axle engaging or disengaging to slow or improperly. That is why people notice it less in sport mode since it puts 80% of the power to the rear axle.

Re: Did Shudder TSB fix a problem? 2011 Shudder problems thread

Mine does it pretty darn bad at 40 mph all the way to 60. Feels like im driving over really rough road. Kicker is that mine is 2WD so explain that Chrysler. I dont think they have found the root cause yet.....Dealer says the factory said it is MDS kicking in and out rapidly while lightly accelerating.
