"The Centers for Disease Control says each year more than 400 Americans die from carbon monoxide poisoning, more than 20 thousand people visit emergency rooms and another 4000 plus victims are hospitalized due to the CO poisoning."

Re: Disabling remote start

Well stated Dan. I'm a part of many forums, many with handy DIY'ers and so on. It is standard fare to posture, pound the chest, and bring up personal rights in every single one of them where issues of safety come up...I get people wanting to express their opinions. At the end of the day, it is a safety concern and frankly one that was thrust on us with no configurability. Fine, will work around it. I understand the dealer can program it away. While many are espousing their personal rights, I will take measures to protect my family's personal safety...that's all I care about. I don't need the government to do that and I'm not asking them to . Jeebus, the sensitivity on the thread is pretty funny...has me thinking of some good April Fools pranks :rant off:

It is a real danger especially if you have small children (they like to push buttons on things). And yes, "in ANY HOME AT ANY GIVEN TIME there are a gabillion ways to die very easily." so does that mean we shouldn't address those dangers? Duh. And no, a most homes do not in fact have inoperable smoke detectors...don't know where you get your "facts" from. Smoke detectors have been a proven safety device that is very cost effective. People die from smoke inhalation in their sleep or wake up when the fire is too big....same with CO poisoning (mostly from failed or improperly used combustion heating sources). But then again maybe we should give toddlers plastic bags to play with and leave pool areas unattended...ahhh ignorance.

Reference my very first comment about not being the safety police here. I simply asked the question about how to disable it, I didn't call my GD congressman. You are free to bypass safety interlocks on your garage door and lawn mower, and no one will stop you from doing so. Go nuts...

Seriously though, my family still lives in McCalla and I love Alabama. Would live there but I'm hitched, with kids, and she's originally from here (Bay Area). Good to be able to travel back and visit though.
i read the your first post i did not mean to direct my comment toward you, rather in general. it seems everyday someone finds a problem with something and the next thing you know i cant buy a 5 gallon $hiter.

I am in Montgomery, and got stuck here because of a woman 18 years ago, it is beautiful, but the politics make me want to shoot myself. i guess living up north in DC expanded my views too much.

i really did not mean to attack you or anyone else, one of my gifts is not tactfulness.

No worries friend. My only dealing with Montgomery was going through the MEPS there at Maxwell before shipping off to boot camp in San Diego (Navy).

we walked the same stations then, i went through Gunter, on my way to San Antonio.

and just for laughs how many of those that went to the hospital for CO poisoning had a repeat visit sorry i just cant resist starting stuff.

I understand everyone's concerns. its just funny to me now that my kids are almost grown. i am sure i would have worried about the same stuff when they were toddlers.

Re: Disabling remote start

Dude you just need to be cautious with your keys. It is not a reason to start disabling anything. Don't change the car, change what you do and you'll be fine.

Re: Disabling remote start

I have no reason to use remote start, but I did disable the FOB. Just split it apart like changing a battery, place a small piece of elec tape over the contact area of the circuit board. Problem solved.

Not to take this thread sideways but ... too late

We built our dream home a few years ago. After 27 years in a very modest tract home, we built a custom house - BUT as soon as we took possession of the new house I moved the commodes from the old home (swapped em with the new mandated lower-flow units from the new home) before selling the old home.

The wife thought I was crazy, but I explained that those "grandfathered" toilets were like gold.... the stuff goes down first time, reliably

Just goes to show ... as in engines, so in toilets... There's no replacement for displacement

^Agreed. Unless this dude wears tight pants, I don't see how it could happen.

Re: Disabling remote start

it can, and does happen. I've just been trying to keep it out of my pocket. That when it happens with my Challenger. Also keeping the keys away from the kids reach. Keeping it active for now, going skiing this weekend.
