Re: Disabling remote start

Just a couple of useful tips, I went to Lowes and found key hook holder and placed it just inside the door I always come into the house so first thing I see is the key hook and hang my keys up, can be installed to any height desired to keep out of reach of small kids, just have to start the habit and after awhile presto it'll be first thing you do when you walk in the door. Also for peace of mind install a CO detector in your garage, I have seen before but can't recall where that you can set up a CO detector in the garage and if elevated levels are detected the garage door automatically opens ( Probably a pricey option thou ). But by far the cheapest route would be a key holder inside the door or taking the FOAB apart and placing some electrical tape over the contacts of the remote start button and when you go skiing just take it back apart and remove the tape!

Re: Disabling remote start

Or use one remote with the remote start disabled and the other with it unmodified. Use the first as your daily use remote and the other in a safe place when you want that option....or Jeep could to a firmware update that allows remote start to be disabled....

Just goes to show ... as in engines, so in toilets... There's no replacement for displacement

Low-flow toilets cause a stink in SF

Re: Disabling remote start

Well I thought all the folks that said they accidentally started their JGC with the key fob in their pocket were nuts.

Today how ever I am working on some cabling in my office when a co-worker comes up and asked if I knew my car was running? My fob was in my jean pocked and I guess while on the floor I somehow hit the remote start button 2 times.

So I am either nuts like the other folks or this is a real problem.

During the winter I always put my keys in my jacket pocket so it never was a problem but now that it is warmer I put the keys in my front jean pocket.

Being more careful is of course one answer but it is still a problem.

Re: Disabling remote start

What people fail to realize is that the CO output of a car idling in a garage probably won't kill you!

For evidence, look at the below citation from the American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology. They studied two suicides by car exhaust, and found that the deaths were NOT caused by CO poisoning. In fact, the CO output of the engine they tested was only 71 ppm, enough to cause headaches after several hours, but not death, and certainly not in 10 minutes. These people died of carbon DIOXIDE poisoning.

All the reports that I read about in which an autopsy confirms CO as the cause of death involve cars trapped in heavy snow storms, and their exhaust being blocked. A circumstance certainly not like a warm, dry garage.

So put the CO detectors in the garage if it makes you feel better. Or, to feel even better still, do a little research and realize you have nothing to fear from carbon monoxide in your garage.

Re: Disabling remote start

Also, what happens is CO forms a stronger bond to hemoglobin in your RBC's than oxygen. As such, you do not transport oxygen in your bloodstream since the CO crowds out the binding sites....hence you could call it CO2 poisoning but that is just wrong wrong wrong.
