Re: Disappearing coolant? Please help

When the water pump "weeps", it means that the seal is going south and it is starting to leak out via a hole in the WP casting. That is what the hole is for...to tell you the seal is bad and to replace the pump.

It typ. Dribbles down the lower radiator hose. I still have to clean and check mine but have been way too busy as of late.

Re: Disappearing coolant? Please help

I'm definitely not going to the dealership. I'm out of bumper to bumper, but still in drive train. Water pump and radiator not covered

Now it's losing coolant at a faster rate. I'll have it a radiator shop this week to see if there's a leak somewhere I can't see or if it's actually the water pump

Re: Disappearing coolant? Please help

Update.

Eventually the leak became so rapid I could finally see it dripping from the tank. Apparently the type of seal they use on the factory tanks isn't ideal and can quickly deteriorate. So $325 for a new radiator installed at a local mom and pop and she's good to go.

That is until she was wrecked yesterday, ugh!

Pray for not a total loss... I don't think I can find another gem like her without facing some serious extra costs...

Isn't the water pump and radiator covered under the 5 year, 50K mileage powertrain warranty?

The engine certainly can't run for long without coolant.

Re: Disappearing coolant? Please help

Yeah that was my argument too. But apparently not.

Only the engine internals, transmission, torque converter, drive shaft, differential, rear axle (front axle and differential if 4x4)... That's it....

I guess you could argue oil changes are warranty being as the engine needs oil to not fail. Air filter too. Or any maintenance item.... Oh well.

$325 beats the stealerships $980 / $1040 (2 prices ontained)

Re: Disappearing coolant? Please help

I was only answering about the radiator as my water pump is fine. Most items attached to engine are covered...

If the water pump is bad the engine will show signs of over heating due to poor coolant flow.

I never had any issues of over heating. Just disappearing coolant even though no visible leaks.

After 8 mos the leak finally sprung heavy enough I could see it.
