Display's dim before its dark out with rain sensing wipers activated

Has anyone else found that lights go on and dash lights/nav/radio go to dim to early at times and you can hardly see the the display on the navigation screen? Had mine in for other issues and asked dealer to check this out and of course got "normal" as always. I have since found that if I leave wiper system in "auto" rain sensing mode (I always just leave them on) that lights get activated and dash systems dim (as if it were dark out) well before dusk BUT if I turn off the wiper system, the headlights go back off and the nav screen ect go back to normal daytime lighting untill it gets darker outside???? Can others check if theres do the same....anyone know if the rain sensing sytem for the wipers adds sensitivity to the daylight sensor??

Check out page 145 of your owner's manual. The headlights come on automatically when the wipers activate, but that is selectable in the EVIC menu. You can turn that feature off if you want.

Or let the headlights come on but set your interior lighting control to stay in daytime mode. That's one click below "all interior lights on."

I think he was talking about just having the switch on, but wipers inactive, no rain, and that the lights are more sensitive to low light conditions. If you turn off this feature in the EVIC, the lights will never come on with the wipers, even if it rains.

Exactly. Wipers set to on (automatic IF it rains), NOT raining out BUT dash lights dim and headlamps on way to early so that I cannot see roads on the nav screen UNLESS I bypass and set switch to constant daytime mode or shut the wipers to off and not use the auto rain sensing feature. It is "as if" the daylight sensor calibration is changes with the wipers just set in on position even though they are not active nor raining out. The daylight sensor works perfect with the wipers in off position. (I usually just leave them on position 1,2 or 3 and let them come on automatically if it rains or gets spray).

Yep can manually overide with the switch but didnt think we should have too..just dont think something is 100% right that daylight sensor is dimming dash and putting on head's much earlier even though no rain and wipers not going.

Check nav settings; day / night settings or automatic. If on day/night setting the nav dims on the set times.

Turn off the lights on with wipers option.

Agree! Pretty much defeats the pupose. Those that choose to go thru the steps of changing the settings or switching the wipers to off can do so. I'm with you, why have the headlights come on when it's still daylight, no mater what you have your wipers set at. I would like to see someone reply to this issue without just providing a work around!
Is their somthing not working right? Or is this just a factory configuration flaw that they choose to let us all live with?

My 11 Laredo has a very sensitive auto headlight on setting... I can get in shadows of trees at 8am and they will turn on... then off as I get out of 'shade'... same way in evening. Yep, its plenty bright enough to not need the headlights.

Re: Display's dim before its dark out with rain sensing wipers activated

Mine does the same thing. Since so many of us are experiemcing this, it must be in the design, and probably not programmable with a scan tool.

Re: Display's dim before its dark out with rain sensing wipers activated

This is one of the minor features that Lexus and other luxury vehicles get right. In our Lexus, the headlights can turn on with the wipers, but if it's still bright outside, the dash illumination stays in Day mode, so it's independent of the headlights turning on and off.
