Does my JGC have trailer brakes?

Hello,

I recently towed a trailer that had brakes. And I'm not
sure if my 2011 Jeep GC laredo can make use of trailer
brakes or not. I have the towing package. And I've looked
through the manual. And I'm still not sure.

I can find no manual slider switch to manually apply trailer
brakes.

This car scares me. I love it but it's beyond me.

Thanks.

No brake controller = no trailer brakes.

Unless the trailer has surge brakes.

An add on brake controller like Teknosha shouldnt set you back more than $250 installed. Your local uhaul shop or any hitch shop can do it.

Think Outside !- No Box Required.

Re: Does my JGC have trailer brakes?

If you have the factory towing package, it is prewired for a brake controller. You should have received a wiring harness and instructions that plugs right into a connector that is located under the dash, on top of the parking brake pedal (if not, you can purchase off e-Bay for under $20). You can also purchase an aftermarket harness or some brake controllers come with the harness. If you do a search on the forum, you will find several threads about this, along with instructions on how to do the installation. Also, some members have suggestions on where to mount the brake controller.

Do they stick this in the car somewhere? I've never noticed it. In any case, this is good to know that it's wired up and ready for a brake module. Thanks.

Re: Does my JGC have trailer brakes?

Mine came in a large clear plastic envelope with the wiring and instructions, packed in the glovebox. Sometimes these are packed in the console storage or in the spare tire well (even look under the tire). You only get it if you have the factory towing package option. Many electronic brake controllers come with the proper plug & play wiring if you order specifically for the vehicle:
