Auto mode will use the compressor all the time. It is just like your house (if you have a heat pump). If you leave it on Auto it will never just turn the fan on to recirculate air it will turn on the compressor when in operation. If you want to drive without the A/C running use manual mode floor or face vents only.

Are you sure?? The heat from a car comes from the engine heat not the A/C. In a heat pump you have no choice, it tries to get heat from the outside air. Thats not the case in a car.

Mine has the exact same problem. Twice, however, the problem has been that the compressor never fires so even when I have the A/C mode 'on', it will not blow cold air. My dealer is (of course) telling me that there is no problem.

Yes, I to am also having the same problem. I also remember the fan control light (center) showing blue in the center and it no longer does. Should it show a blue light.

Re: Does your A/C compressor run full time also?

I heard my AC compressor coming on and then turning off again when I come to a stop with the HVAC system turned OFF. To verify it was the AC compressor, I rigged up my Hero HD2 video camera to see if the compressor engages -- it does but only for a few secs and then disengages upon acceleration. Maybe they programmed the cycling to keep the system lubricated which enhances longevity? That's all I can guess about the "why" of it all.
