Question Door Adjustment

My drivers door edge protrudes from the body panel at the rear. I would like to adjust it and don't really want the dealer messing with it. Is it fairly simple to adjust?

Re: Door Adjustment

Just don't look at it, unless your dealership has a exceptional body shop.... don't let them touch it.

Besides if the door is functioning properly and not sticking they weill say they looked at it and it functioning normally"

I asked them to adjust mine because the latch was hitting the loop on the body.

Re: Door Adjustment

There where at least 2 users in another thread here who had the same issue. The dealer sent the car out to the local body shop to adjust. One was done succesfully in like a half of an hour,, the other took a little longer but success also.

I have the same issue but havent attempted to adjust yet. As soon as some of the other stuff is adressed I will pursue. No leaks or wind noise so Im happy even though the lines of the car on one side are affected.

No, it's a multi-step pain to do. Either live with it or have your dealer's body shop do it under warranty.

Re: Door Adjustment

Uneven gaps and misaligned body panels seem to be pretty common on the WK2. My 2012 is acceptable, but I can definately tell they don't go above and beyond at Chrysler to ensure perfect gaps and alignments on the WK2.

Re: Door Adjustment

mine was a mess from day one. Dealer was willing to fix it but when i saw how the rest of them were at the dealership i let it be. I think if you go to sell it and someone sees all the marks on the bolts on the hinges they may suspect damage history.

Re: Door Adjustment

I'm actually surprised the doors and other panels are all lined up properly on my WK2.

I remember on my 2000 WJ, I had to rotate the drivers door counterclockwise a tiny bit for the body lines to align properly. I also had a 2003 Mustang SVT Cobra and had to adjust both doors on that car. That took a lot of time to do properly. I'm pretty particular about body panels that are misaligned.

Re: Door Adjustment

I have the same problem on the passenger front door. I am going to ask the dealer about adjusting it at the first oil change. They will probably have the body shop do it. It has to be just a matter of adjusting the latch to pull the door in a little more. The other panels seems pretty good but not perfect, the drivers door is aligned good but it seems I have to close it a little harder than the others at times.

I had this done before buying my GC. Dealer had a body shop adjust rear driver side door. Looks perfect no marks on paint or hinge. You would never know this was done.

Re: Door Adjustment

The back edge of all my panels/doors are all slightly protruding out compared to the next panel/door which I thought is a sound/wind noise prevention? For example the front fender is just slightly "out" compared to the front edge of my drivers door. This repeats on all of them. Now if something is crooked then that is bs. My hatch was and the dealer fixed that. But I was under the assumption that te body panels are like that for noise prevention??

Feasibility of a proper fix depends whether the door is just poorly mounted -- or the body itself is actually out of alignment, causing the door and/or other body parts to be misaligned. On ours the cause is the body, presumably manufactured a smidgen off during unibody welding. So there's no way to really fix the door, which is misaligned 1/4". For example, if the front door were adjusted to line up with the rear door, the front door's lower corner lip would probably strike the body, gaps would become nonparallel unless the front door's trailing edge were ground down, and so on ad nauseam.

So, we let it slide because any proper fix would have been a huge undertaking, even though paid for by Jeep, and kind of a bastard outcome no matter how well it was done. Left as is, it's only (slightly) noticeable where the front passenger door meets the rear door, so life goes on. Perfection is for the Almighty and Rolls-Royce.

Understand why you let it slide. Mine was a small high point on the top of the rear passenger door 1/8'' racked. I was concerned for water leak.
