Door handle unlock

Been having a problem unlocking the drivers door via pulling up on outside door handle. I have to pull it up a bunch of times before it finally unlocks. Changed battery in key fob and still having the problem. It started a few months back but it's intermittent so I never brought it in to be checked. Anyone else ever have this issue?

Re: Door handle unlock

Try this if you haven't already...

Just put your hand on the door handle and wait for it to unlock before you pull on it. If you're pulling on it the instant you touch the handle you can have the problem you describe.

Thanks for suggestion (I'll give that a try)

>>>UPDATE<<< I just tried what you suggested but it doesn't do anything by just grabbing door handle. Seems that it only unlocks when handle is slightly moved. It took about 5 tries before it unlocked. Then once it unlocks the first time it seems to work okay after that.

This is going to be one of those things that is going to drive me crazy because it probably can't be fixed unless it does it at the dealership.

Re: Door handle unlock

it should just open by touch when you have the fob with you. one thing mine has developed over the past few months is that if I have my cell phone near the fob(same pocket or in my hand) the door wont unlock. have tried changing the battery in fob but the cell phone definitely interferes. so if you have a phone try getting it out of the vicinity before troubleshooting.

Re: Door handle unlock

Yep, have the dealer look at it. Mine unlocks simply by touching the inside of the handle. No pull required.

One other thing... do you have a cell phone on you when it does this? People have reported that it does interfere with locking by use of the button on the handle so I'd have to wonder if it also doesn't interfere with unlocking?

LOL... oh well, silvermax beat me to it.

Re: Door handle unlock

great minds think a like MD lol. yes the problem I have with the cell interfering is with the unlock and touching the handle. proximity of the phone to the fob causes it. phone near the fob it doesn't work, move fob a few feet away (or simply put it in other hand) and it works fine. Just one of those things I have chosen to deal with just like the rearview mirror needing adjusted every day or so rather than risking the dealer creating a bigger problem out of it.

Re: Door handle unlock

I usually have an old, outdated Motorola flip phone on my right hip. That gets pretty close to the door handle when I'm locking or unlocking the door. Never had the interference problem... but that's probably due to the phone being old and tired, or on a very different frequency from the newer ones.

But yes, I could definitely see a cell phone causing this problem.

Re: Door handle unlock

Have you tried the passenger door?

Have you tried carrying the other fob?

On mine different fob or other door doesn't make a difference. It also only happens when jeep is asleep when jeep is awake it works fine.

Same interference issue for me with my work phone, only. It is a newer blackberry.

No issue with the fob next to my iphone
