Door Unlocking after RFH Update

I recently had my Jeep at the dealer to have a MIL checked out. In the same visit, they updated the HVAC module and the Radio Frequency Hub. That RFH update 08-100-15 (http://wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_0810015.pdf) looks pretty serious: it says that it fixes an issue where the vehicle's "backup start mode" wouldn't function if the keyfob's battery dies

Since the update however, I've noticed that my vehicle doesn't unlock the doors at the first grab at the door if it's been sitting for more than a few hours. I notice that the EVIC lights up shortly after the first contact, as if my car has "woken up". If I let go, then grasp the handle again, the doors unlock. I've tried some keyfob troubleshooting- my keys have always been in the opposite pocket from my phone, the other keyfob behaves the same way, and I've replaced the 2032 coin cell in the fob.

Before the update, my car would unlock straight away on contact. Isn't that how it's supposed to be? Has anyone else noticed a difference after the update? I wanted to get an idea of how it works for others before I go back to the dealer.

Re: Door Unlocking after RFH Update

Since I had that update performed, I've noticed that mine will do the same thing occasionally. Well, that along with other electrical gremlins that have haunted this vehicle since new over 3 years ago.

It's a nuisance, but I just chalk it up to it being a Chrysler vehicle.

Re: Door Unlocking after RFH Update

Maybe try disconnecting the battery for a bit, and reconnect and see if that helps. I feel sometimes these s/w updates get screwy if the battery isn't disconnected a bit after the update. Kinda like rebooting your PC after an update.

If that doesn't work, I'd bring it back to the dealer to complain and hopefully you can repeat the incident.

I'm trying to find a pattern- I set a timer when I lock my car now. After it sat for 10hrs, for example, it wouldn't open on the first try.

Good idea. I left it disconnected for two hours after getting back from work today. Hooked it back up, started it up, drove around a bit tonight. I'll see how it behaves tomorrow

Well, there's you're problem right there....you should be out in the Jeep enjoying it more often....

I agree, it's not acceptable. Along with your problem that my vehicle is experiencing, the other problem I've had for over 3 years now is that the keyfob 2 clicks to open liftgate sometimes requires 4 clicks. The latest and only TSB for the problem (08-100-15) helped a lot, in that it now operates correctly 7 out of 10 times, whereas it used to operate correctly 1 out of maybe 50 times. Chrysler just doesn't have the knowledge to correct this problem.

Since not all 2014 WK2's have this problem, though I believe most of them do, the owners just don't notice the problem or more likely they just don't bother bringing the problem up with the dealer, Chrysler's not really hunting for the cure.

Re: Door Unlocking after RFH Update

Still performs intermittently. I've attached a spreadsheet in the zip file with a few days worth of data on when/how long I lock the car. I'm going to try and find a pattern today.

I WANT THE OLD SOFTWARE BACK. This is ridiculous. It worked fine every single time before it was "updated"!

Re: Door Unlocking after RFH Update

My '14 Limited is doing the same thing after that update. After is sits for a while I have to grab the handle twice to unlock it and I have to push the button on the handle twice to lock it. When unlocking it, I see the EVIC wake up on the first grab but I have to let go and grab it again to unlock it. When exiting, the lights flash on the first push of the button but I have to push it a second time for the locks to work.

Already tried disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes. Seemed to work the rest of the day but after sitting overnight it's doing the same thing.

Yup, exactly the same symptoms. Have you brought it up to the dealer? My dealer wants to start by replacing the door handle sensors

Re: Door Unlocking after RFH Update

My Jeep started having this behavior a few months back after I replaced the battery on the remotes. Today I was at the dealership and got the RFH reflash. I will keep an eye out for any odd behavior.
