Doors Don't Stay Locked

When the doors are locked using the remote or manually locking from the inside, the doors are reopening at a later time. I am experiencing the issue of not being able to securely lock the car doors, because once I lock the doors they are spontaneously unlocked when I return to the car again. The Dealership has no idea what is causing this issue. Please let me know if anyone else has this same issue.

This is for a 2011 Grand Cherokee Limited.

Re: Doors Don't Stay Locked

Try taking the panel off the inside from the door. There's some metal bars that control the lock and handle actually criss-crossed and were interfering with each other causing the door to pop unlocked again.

Re: Doors Don't Stay Locked

I don't know if this is going to help or not, but my previous vehicle - a Dodge - kept on remote starting on it's own. I barely just locked the car and it starts up again. I cancel this via the remote start on my key fob and after a few seconds it remote starts. I walk away and it remote starts. I approach the car and it remote starts.

I thought to myself how this was going to be expensive if they had to replace some module. The dealer had no idea why it was happening.

Then I thought maybe it's my fob. I removed the battery right there and then and the remote start occurrence stopped. I changed to my second Fob while the dealer orders a new one.

In the meantime, I took apart the defective fob and used a can of air to blast whatever minute foreign particles built up over time in there.

Lo and behold it fixed the fob and no more remote start since then.

Just saying maybe your fob is having a short-circuit on it's own and worth trying before exploring other options.

Re: Doors Don't Stay Locked

Well, I am now having the problem with my 14' summit unlocking the doors while I am walking away from parked and also while I'm driving. I can lock the doors while in the vehicle in motion and it unlocks and continues to try to unlock while flashing the lights every couple of minutes and dealer said they've never heard of this (of course).

Re: Doors Don't Stay Locked

Try what oneframe suggested in post #4. Seems easy enough and will eliminate the simplest possibility. Open the fob, clean it out, install new battery.

^^^ What he said..... But try changing the battery in both key fobs. When I was having a few issues with my 2011 I replaced the batteries in both and was trouble free for years.

No, they said they have no idea what could cause it. They implied that my remote unlock button was being pushed in my pocket. I explained that I tested it while making sure the button was not pushed and they said "that's weird" and did nothing.

Were they able to duplicate your concern or were you able to demonstrate the concern to the dealer? Have you tried to use a different fob, if you have two? Kevin T, Social Connect Team

No, the problem doesn't do it every time, just once in a while. I can go a week with it not happening and then it happens. I lock the Jeep and when I go to use it I find it unlocked. Only a couple of times it happened when I was walking away after parking and locking I hear it unlock. I then lock it again and it either stays or I find it unlocked in the morning when leaving for work. I tried both fobs and replaced batteries in both but the problem still happens. At this point I hope that a fix is found and then have it addressed when Jeep knows what it is.

I have had the same problem now for over a year. It's documented with Jeep but they don't even try to diagnose the problem. IOW, not enough complaints for them to look into it.
I never leave anything of value in the vehicle.
